Why Ditching Makeup Is The Best Decision Any Girl Can Make

I love makeup. It’s true. I have five Urban Decay eyeshadow pallets and a tried and true mascara combination. Under no circumstances should you allow me in a Sephora unattended. I loooove to get fancy when the occasion calls for it, and I’m practically giddy over any excuse to bust out my glitter eyeliner and brightest eyeshadows.

Yeah, I have a problem.

Also, I used to wear makeup every day. The key words here are used to. For the last three years, I have not worn makeup on a consistent basis, and I’ve learned something. When I was wearing makeup all the time, leaving the house without it was an upsetting situation. I felt naked and uncomfortable. Well, not anymore. When you go makeup-less, it quickly becomes your new normal.

Why is going makeup-less the best decision you can make? Let me count the ways…

You save time.

Think about how much time you spend putting on makeup in the morning. Even if you have your routine down to a science, this probably takes at least 5-10 minutes. This is five to ten minutes you could spend sleeping, or at the gym, or enjoying breakfast…you name it! And lets be real, any of those things sound better than plastering sh*t all over my eyes that I’m going to regret within a few hours.

Feel free to rub your eyes.

Let’s talk about that moment where you rub your eyes and forget you’re wearing makeup. It’s kind of a day-ruiner. You spent your valuable time putting this gunk on your face, only to rub it all off because you weren’t paying attention? Pass.

This also applies to crying. Ever have a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day? Of course you have. Now, admittedly, I’m a crier. I cry pretty easily and always have…This becomes a problem when wearing makeup. Mascara running down your face? No thanks.

Glasses: the struggle is real.

Shout out to those of you who were not blessed with the gift of good eyesight. Those of us who are hopeless without thick frames or high contact prescriptions know the struggle. Put on makeup without your contacts? Not if I don’t want to stab myself in the eye or turn out like a Jenna Marbles video. So basically, if I want to wear my glasses but also wear makeup, I have to put in my contacts just to get the makeup on my face – and then take them out. So, that sucks. However, there’s an easy solution: no makeup!

Embarrassing makeup snafus? Not anymore!

Ever go an extended period of time without looking in a mirror, only to eventually realize you’ve had makeup smeared under your eyes for God knows how long? Now you don’t have to worry about that. Has your day ever been ruined by an inability to get your eyeliner to be even on both eyes? Not anymore! And I know you’ve sneezed while putting on mascara…and we all know the disastrous consequences that has. But if you forego the makeup, this will never most definitely not be a problem for you.

You’re beautiful without makeup.

Your mom and your friends tell you this all the time, but until you actually feel it yourself nothing is going to change. And how are you going to get yourself to this point? Well, friends, it’s not going to happen until you actually let yourself go without makeup – at least sometimes. So ditch the mascara. Put down the eyeliner. Store your brushes. You’ll realize that you don’t actually need a face caked in products to be the beautiful person you truly are. A few skincare products, perhaps some Crepe Erase strategically applied, and your face will look youthful, healthy, and rejuvenated, and all without any makeup. Plus, the best way to shut down the societal expectation that you must wear makeup in order to be beautifulDON’T WEAR MAKEUP and BE BEAUTIFUL.

Is it fun to play with makeup sometimes? Of course! But on a daily basis, foregoing the morning makeup ritual saves you time and energy, helps shut down outdated societal concepts of beauty, and overall just makes your day easier.
