Good Vibes Only: How To Prioritize Protecting Your Energy

We’re over a month into 2026, but my goals are already falling to the wayside. 

I’ve realized it’s time for realignment, and what better way to refocus than to improve the energy that I’m bringing to goal-setting? If one of your resolutions is to eliminate negative energy, then you’ll love these easy ways to protect your peace.

In our world of online oversharing and limited privacy, everyone should own a journal.

As a writer, I believe that everyone should write, especially considering that the United States is in the midst of a literacy crisis. Writing gives you the opportunity to zone in on a single task, channeling any racing thoughts into productive word-vomit at worst and beautiful prose or poetry at best.

Journaling allows you to let everything that troubles you out on paper, and the most beautiful part is that it doesn’t come with any rules. You can jot down your thoughts in bullet points, you can abandon the constraints of grammar and proper sentence-structuring, or you can write in the messiest handwriting if it helps you express your emotions. Anything too dark or sensitive to share with your closest loved ones is perfect to share in your journal, giving you an outlet for your feelings. Sometimes just journaling about an issue helps you problem-solve. Answers are never clearer than when they stare you in the face.  

Don’t have the energy to write? That’s totally OK, too.

Journals don’t need to be a pen-and-paper process. A friend of mine saved voice memos on her phone as her personal journal. Any proactive way you can release negative thoughts works!

If you believe in the healing power of crystals, investing in protection crystals is a great way to protect your energy.  I recently picked up a collection of stones: black tourmaline, hematite, picture jasper, and obsidian.  Black tourmaline is like an energy shield — it protects your energy and also deflects bad vibes.

Hematite is another dark-colored crystal with protective powers. My favorite form of hematite is a hematite ring. Hematite rings break once the owner is surrounded by so much positive energy that the rings have finished serving their purpose. Hematite is incredibly grounding, helping you focus on the most important steps towards achieving your goals.

Picture Jasper boosts energy, grounds us, and deepens our connections to our emotions, while obsidian is a “psychic vacuum cleaner,” cleansing you of negativity. It’s transmutative and grounding as well, so it’s the perfect crystal to pair with black tourmaline, hematite, and Picture Jasper.

If you love music, use it to bring positive energy into your life.

Music has incredible power over our emotions. If you need some mood-boosting tunes to bring in positive energy, try “15 Minutes” by Sabrina Carpenter, “The Giver” by Chappell Roan, or “Right Side of My Neck” by Faye Webster. These upbeat songs will elevate your mood and bring you good vibes, no matter where you listen.

If you feel like you’re already losing sight of your resolutions, and you feel negative energy seeping into your life, these steps will bring the positive vibes back into your year. Then, you can realign and focus on the goals that matter most to you.
