If You Can’t Take Me At My Worst, You Don’t Deserve Me At My Best

Within the world today we see many relationships grow into something new and happy then within a month they break up and cannot stand each other, I have always wondered why. I could never wrap my head around the thought of loving someone before you even began to understand every aspect they have. I may be ‘old school’ but how can you not be with all of this technology today. Technology plays such a huge role in relationships today that who even needs face to face communication, it’s so old school – that was a joke, everyone needs face to face communication. But in all seriousness, how many of you can say you’ve been like this at least once. I’ll admit I have once before – but I learned very quickly how wrong I was.

See without face to face communication these words are just words. They could be making everything up about themselves anyways. I recently came across this empowering song and needed to share it because wow, it’s a perfect one. At My Best by Machine Gun Kelly and Hailee Steinfeld. The song’s initial purpose is to show the power in finding yourself but I believe it is more than that. This first paragraph especially

“I got issues just like you got issues, I been hurt, I seen the scar tissue, If I show you, would you run away? Do I gotta hide ‘em for you to wanna stay? Do I, even need you? Should I leave you? Do I, gotta be you, just to please you? Do I, say I’m all good when I bleed you Through my, heart? Quit tearing’ mine apart.”

This is a very deep and emotional song but it speaks the honest truth. The honest truth about everything in life actually, it’s not just relationships. But since I’m speaking about relationships I should probably mention what my thoughts are. You see, when people jump into things too quickly, at a speed they cannot control they get worried and do not know what to do when they come crashing down and are not sure who is going to catch them. That leads to a sense of loneliness and a sense of depression because you just cannot know because initially, you do know that person. They have never seen you at your worst and so you try to hide it. Although hiding it comes worse than actually being there with the person in full reality. This is one of my many reasons to why you should really understand the people you surround yourself with, learn to know them inside and out

The chorus of the song fits so well into everyday life. It explains the reality of everyone’s personal lives and shows the truth behind emotions.

“I shout, I swear, I get angry, I get scared, I fall, I break, I mess up, I make mistakes, but if you can’t take me at my worst, you don’t deserve me at my best.”

This chorus gets me every single time. Just listen to it. Just read those words and listen to the truth in the lyrics. It is so relevant to relationships in today’s society. If you can’t take me at my worst, you don’t deserve me at my best. It is so powerful, it speaks to the reality of the people who jump into things so quickly before they even know the person, and then they feel lost, as they have nowhere to go. It speaks to the reality of life and the strength of the people who do go through these events. Although wouldn’t it be nice if you knew the person at the bottom of the hill would catch you when you fall?

Next, we have the long-term realization of the song:

“Look at all the years I’ve been waiting; for a moment. Shed a lot of tears just to smile in the morning’ tell me could you love me? Tell me could you love me? Tell me could you love if I told you why I shout, I swear, I get angry I get scared, I fall, I break, I mess up, I make mistakes.”

This part does involve a tad bit of repetition from the chorus but it makes the piece so much stronger. It is talking once again about the reality of knowing a person entirely before you give them your all. Essentially he is stating that even though you may know someone do you both accept and understand each other? Are you there for one another?

“Got to keep it goin’, got to keep my head up, uh. I got to keep it goin’, got to keep my head up ‘Cause life is about”

When he leaves the ending with life is about, he leaves it for a sense of anyone to be able to relate. That’s is why I can use this song for this blog about knowing who your friends truly are before they become more than just friends.

It is so very important to surround yourself with a good, structured backbone because without them you are all alone, and no one likes being alone for that long. Just remember to fully get a good understand of the people who you are around because they need to benefit you and you to them. They need to be there for you when you need help, and vise versa. The people you spend your time around are the type of people you become and you have to be very careful. This is why I say pick your friends wisely and everyone else wiser.

Check out the song, At My Best by Machine Gun Kelly, it truly is very good and very well written. Plus the beat will make you want to rock out so I suggest a road trip with friends – of which you know very well – and blast it in the car. In all honestly, what gets better than that?
