7 Underrated Places To Visit For Your Summer Vacation

Now that the summer months are approaching, many of us are feeling the need to book our airline ticket. We’re consulting our bucket lists, travel guides, and books. If you have visited every popular destination in the world, or are looking to switch things up, here are seven underrated places to visit: 

1. Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia

Mongolia is a country filled with rich history and culture. Many of us know the country because of Genghis Khan – the warrior who expanded the Mongol empire. However, Mongolia is still a wonderful place to visit outside of the tales from history books. Ulaanbaatar is the capital city and is surrounded by four sacred mountains. The monasteries, museums, and libraries are all a reflection of Mongolia’s past. Plus, you can also get a quick glimpse of the Genghis Khan statue in Sukhbaatar Square. 

2. Taipei, Taiwan 

Taipei is the capital of Taiwan, which is situated along the Tan-Shui river. The city is a blend of Japanese and American influence, with a rapid transit system, beautiful temples, and historical museums. If you’re a nature fan, Taipei has plenty of parks for you to visit as well. Some include the Daan Forest Park, Youth Park, and C.K.S. Memorial Hall

3. Bled, Slovenia 

Bled is an island located in the center of Lake Bled. The place is picturesque; when you’re walking around, you’ll feel as if you’re in the middle of Arendelle. If you love to canoe, you’ll enjoy rowing a boat around the island. Plus, there’s a magical castle you can visit, too. 

4. Port Louis, Mauritius 

Port Louis is the capital of Mauritius island. The city had a long history of colonization by the French and the British, which can be seen in the architecture. There are fortresses, cathedrals, and a government house established in the colonial era. If you love beaches, Port Louis will be one of your favorite travel destinations. You’ll also enjoy the tropical climate of the island. 

5. Caracas, Venezuela 

Welcome to the capital city of Venezuela – a city full of beautiful valleys, delicious food, and a fantastic nightlife. There are plenty of historical places to visit in Caracas, such as the Contemporary Art Museum, Centro de Arte Los Galpones, and the Panteon National. For the adventurous types, you’ll enjoy the parks in Caracas as well. 

6. Nuuk, Greenland 

Greenland is the world’s largest island, located in the Northern Atlantic Ocean. The capital and the largest city is Nuuk, with a population of around 17,000. Due to the low population, there’s no air pollution, and rush hour lasts for only 15 minutes. Moreover, you can walk from downtown to the Fjord in just a couple of minutes. Remember to catch the northern lights from September to April. 

7. Islamabad, Pakistan 

Islamabad is the capital of Pakistan, and contrary to popular belief, many areas of the city are safe. The architecture in Islamabad is unique with mosques, monuments, and colorful museums. Another advantage is that Pakistan is relatively cheap to visit, with an average price of 30-50 USD a day

Although this list is not exhaustive, these are seven destinations you can add to your summer travels. When traveling to these destinations, make sure to research your route beforehand, change your cell plan, and exercise caution. Know the streets very well, and always use your senses. The more careful you are, the more fun you’ll have.
