fall

It’s fall, so now’s the time to watch the leaves change colors and feel the crisp air chill our breath. Many places in the US are huge fall “hot spots,” but what about fall fun in other parts of the world? Here are a few global destinations that you should look into if you’re planning a trip this fall!

1. Edinburgh, Scotland

When you think of Scotland, you may think of moats, green hills and the Loch Ness Monster, but Scotland also has some quaint towns that are picturesque in the fall! As you stroll through Edinburgh, you’ll find trees with gold and red leaves that look beautiful enough to be on a postcard. Fall is also the best time to check out some of Scotland’s amazing activities – like art shows, street performances, and even a book festival. There’s something for everyone to enjoy in Edinburgh!

2. Kyoto, Japan

Japan never disappoints, but with cherry blossoms, mountains, and temples covered in beautiful leaves, it’s especially stunning in the fall. In Kyoto, the autumn leaves last from October through December and are incredibly visible! In the evening, you can also check out the Jidai Matsuri festival, which features multiple generations of Japanese people in traditional costumes or the world-renowned Kurama fire festival.

3. Bavarian Alps, Germany

One word: Oktoberfest! Not only is Oktoberfest one of the most popular events in Germany, but seeing castles tower into the cool autumn air makes for a memorable experience.  Oktoberfest lasts for over two weeks, so you have plenty of time to grab some beer and schnitzel and see all of the tourist attractions!

4. Seoul, South Korea

If Japan isn’t on your bucket list, but you want to see Asia in the fall, then South Korea is perfect for you! The foliage in South Korea surrounds temples and mountains, so it’s sure to bring peace and serenity. If you want a “bird’s eye” view, go to Daedunsan and take the cable car up to the peak! If you love both autumn leaves and soccer, you can also visit the World Cup Stadium, which has some beautiful parks nearby as well.

5. Lapland, Finland

Although you may know this Finnish town for its Christmas festivities, it’s just as gorgeous in the fall! In Lapland, you can see the Northern Lights, and in the fall, they’re actually brighter than they are in the winter. Also, many of the trees in the area produce hundreds of edible berries that color the ground. And even if it’s not snowing yet, you can still book a husky sled ride and meet some adorable husky puppies!

There are hundreds of places around the world that are full of “hidden gems” during the fall. Where are some places that you’ve visited that are beautiful in the fall? Let us know in the comments!
