20 Songs That Are Turning 10 Years Old This Year

It’s safe to say that with next year marking the official start to the 2020s, we can’t help but feel super nostalgic about the past ten years and really old because how could the 2010s almost be over? It seemed like just yesterday we were bumping mixtape CD’s we illegally downloaded and learning how to stream things online for the first time.

While reflecting on the past ten years, I couldn’t help but go back to the year  2009 in my brain. Twilight was the big buzz and tagging your friends in those memes with different people to pick their personality was an online sensation. And while those sound like ancient history, 2009 actually provided some of the best music that is still popular today.

Don’t believe me? See for yourself. Here are 20 songs that are turning 10 years old in 2019.

Halo – Beyonce

Why did I feel like this song came out in 2012?

Best I Ever Had – Drake

You mean to tell me that Drake released his first single 10 years ago? If I didn’t feel old already…

Boom Boom Pow – Black Eyed Peas

It was futuristic and totally a hit at all the parties with the young kids.

Paparazzi – Lady Gaga

I would just like to mention that Gaga’s performance of this at the 2009 MTV VMA’s is still one of the best performances I’ve ever seen. Hearing the little monsters singing the words to her still gives me chills.

Tik Tok – Ke$ha

If you and your friends don’t have a rager to this song, are you even cool enough? This song is still a banger! HOW IS THIS SONG 10 YEARS OLD!?

Birthday Sex – Jeremih

Here we were as young kids who didn’t even know what birthday sex even was but singing along as if we were experienced in that department.

Waking Up In Vegas – Katy Perry

I miss this Katy Perry. She was still young, fresh and totally unique.

Empire State of Mind – Jay Z ft. Alicia Keys

This song is still overplayed and has no reason to be.

Beautiful – Akon ft. Colby O’donis & Kardinal Officiall

I don’t know about you but this brings me back to grade 8 dances.

Whatcha Say – Jason Derulo

Let’s confess, this was one of the first songs you used to play on repeat on YouTube because it was just so harmonically beautiful.

You Belong With Me – Taylor Swift

Look how young Taylor looked!

Right Round – Flo Rida ft. Ke$ha

Did anyone else’s mom use to sing the chorus and try to prove to you that it was a cover of a popular 80’s song? Because mine did, and I didn’t believe her until I saw The Wedding Singer.

Starstrukk – 3OH!3 ft. Katy Perry

Do we even know if they’re still making music these days? No clue. But even if they are, we can’t trust them. (The pun was totally intended).

Diva – Beyonce

Come to think of it, this song totally has a ton of lyrics we could use for Instagram captions.

Party In The USA – Miley Cyrus

I have got to say, this is the Miley I miss the most. And this is the music video everyone wanted to be in because her party looked so fun.

Good Girls Go Bad – Cobra Starship ft. Leighton Meester

This song was totally under the radar at the time, and secretly is still a banger to this day. But once you hear it, you totally remember how cool this song was back then.

Down – Jay Sean ft. Lil Wayne

You probably forgot this song existed, but you still belted your heart out to Lil Wayne’s part like how you used to.

Bulletproof – La Roux

Did anyone else not know what the lyrics were for the longest time? Or was it just me?

Fireflies – Owl City

This song is still iconic. Don’t @ me.

Bad Romance – Lady Gaga

How is Bad Romance, which was just voted the best music video of the 2000’s so far, 10 years old!?

I know, the nostalgia just hit you like a ton of bricks and your probably going to create a wicked throwback playlist on Spotify. That’s totally okay! It’s just funny how under the radar 2009 music went because looking back these were all massive hits. Hope you enjoyed the memories because I certainly did!
