Tick Tock: 5 Things You Need To Stop Waiting For

At some point in our lives, we all get tired of waiting. Some people would say that our entire generation is impatient, that we demand instant gratification due to the influence of technology in our lives. Whether this is true or not doesn’t really matter all that much, because as human beings we have all gotten tired of waiting around at some point. Maybe you got tired of waiting for your Starbucks order at the lunch time rush. Or, maybe you got tired of waiting for someone to grow up and want a real relationship with you. Whatever it was that popped into your head, you understand the feeling.

We all are waiting for something and that’s normal, but there are a couple of things you really need to stop waiting on:

Fridays.

Yes, I agree that weekends are the best for numerous reasons, including the simple fact that most responsibilities you have are gone. But we have thirsty Thursday in college for a reason, we got tired of waiting for Friday. I recommend we apply our Friday mood to everyday of the week. If you go into each day with the same attitude you have going into Friday, wouldn’t your week seem a lot less stressful?

A boy to text you back.

Please stop living your life with some guy at the center of it. Don’t give him the power to affect your mood so much. Don’t let the fact that he did (or did not) pick up his phone and type you a message or not make or break your whole day. I don’t care who he is, he’s not worth it.

A guy to give a shit.

There’s someone out there that will treat you the way you deserve. This guy that is playing it “cool” and acting like he doesn’t care about you and your feelings, is not the right guy. No matter how beautiful he makes you feel, if he doesn’t actively care about your day-to-day life or the challenges you’re facing, you need to let go of the hope that one day he magically will.

People to approve of all your life choices.

I’m sorry but when did other people have permission to judge what I do with my own life? At the end of the day, you need to do what feels right to you and what makes you happy. There is no need to wait around for someone else’s permission or approval to live your life.

Your life to begin.

You control your own life. If it’s not going in the direction you want it to be, change it. One of the most unique aspects of our generation is that we have the ability to pick up our lives and change them in the blink of an eye. Don’t love being an English major? Undeclare your major and switch to Bio. Don’t like the relationships you’re involved in? You don’t have to be in them. You have the option to walk out if you want, so stop waiting for your life to be what you dream of and go make it what you want it to be.

What’s the moral of the story? Don’t let your life be a constant waiting period. Go live life for a bit without just sitting, waiting, and wishing for the next day to come. You are given twenty-four hours in a day so why waste any of them wishing for a new day to start something new.

Go do something radical with your life, literally anything. If you want to be a doctor go learn how to do that. Try to change a life, try to be productive for a whole twenty-four hours, or even just read a whole book at a coffee shop. Just do something, instead of nothing. Stop waiting and start doing!
