4 Reasons Nikki Bella And John Cena’s Relationship Didn’t Last

After 6 years of dating and a year of engagement, WWE athletes John Cena and Nikki Bella have parted ways.

The longest reigning Diva’s champion made the announcement last night via social media.

Unlike Nikki, John chose not to acknowledge the end of their romance, but he did tweet something presumably related to the breakup.

John Cena is best known for being one of the main faces of the WWE and his budding acting career. Nikki is best known for E!’s hit show Total Diva’s, highlighting the female wrestlers in the WWE, and the spin off Total Bella’s, that shows her and her twin sister and wrestling partner Brie balancing family life and their businesses.

Fans of the two were shocked by the sudden news and we certainly not expecting them to split. They seemed like the Instagram perfect couple on social media and on TV.

If you watched either reality shows Nikki has starred in, you could easily see that there was some red flags that could have led to the breakup.

They were both career oriented.

There’s no doubt that they both established strong independent careers outside of the wrestling ring. But with working so hard they weren’t able to spend a lot of time together and that will put a strain on a relationship. And despite John’s busy schedule full of acting and hosting gigs (and slight expectation that he would have his fiancee waiting in his trailer for him), Nikki began creating her own career while launching a wine brand and a clothing line, and appearing on Dancing With the Stars.

He was too scarred from his previous marriage.

For most of the few seasons of Total Diva’s Nikki would complain to her girlfriends about how John never wanted to get married again because of the result of his first marriage. He eventually did propose, proving that he did one thing she wanted to make her happy.

She made more sacrifices than he did.

Nikki literally packed her things and moved into his world. We saw her move into his Florida mansion and follow his ridiculous house rules. He wasn’t even willing to let her have candles or pictures around the house. There were many other examples throughout the series, and even Nikki’s twin sister Brie would make comment on how unfair their relationship was. She had to do what he wanted and he wouldn’t negotiate anything because he always had to have control.

They didn’t share the same future goals.

The one thing Nikki emphasized most was that she had always wanted to be a mother. Her fiancee on the other hand, refused to have kids. He didn’t like them. He didn’t even want Nikki’s nieces to call him uncle. So she selflessly accepted that if she wanted to be with the man she loved she had to sacrifice her own dream to keep him in her life.

She stayed with him because she loved him and probably thought deep down she could change him. Every woman has done that at least once.

There was no doubt that they genuinely did love each other, but they clearly wanted different things in life. It was unfair for her to keep having to push aside her own dreams and goals to please him, and it was selfish of him to keep her in a relationship where he would steal her dreams from her.

I don’t think Nikki will be single for too long because she’ll have a line up of guys trying to get her next. She’s a strong and independent woman who clearly knows what she wants and isn’t going to give up her dreams for just anyone else. I’m sure the next guy she finds will be someone who actually supports her and wants to work as a team. She won’t settle and she’ll do just fine without being known as “John Cena’s girlfriend.”

I’m sure we’ll see the relationship drama and breakup go down during season three of Total Bella’s when it airs on Sunday, May 20th, on E!.
