Why Maren Morris Will Be Your Next Music Obsession

The month of February can be tragic for single ladies. A sea of red/pink decorations and heart shaped candies still fill the grocery stores (At least they are now on sale!). Boxes of chocolates and flower bouquets line the work cubicles (How have those roses lived this long?!). And just when you think you can get away from it, the radio is full of voices who are happy and in love (Oh go to hell, Ellie Goulding). Girl Scout cookies are not in full swing yet, so what is a girl to do in order to get away from the remnants of this reminder that you are utterly single?!

I suggest new music. Maren Morris. You may have seen her on the Grammy’s and thought, “Who is that adorable little girl in this beautiful purple dress and where is her chaperone?!” Yes, I am jealous, she is a tiny woman. You may have seen her perform her song Once at the Grammys with Alicia Keys and wondered how such a powerful voice came out of such a small body. I mean I know I did. If you missed the Grammys, you may have her song My Church or even her latest single, Rich, on your local country radio station and wondered who that was. It was Maren, sublimely trying to get you to listen to all of her music.

Okay I know what some of you are thinking – I am not a country fan. Not to fear – Maren is new age country. While she uses the basis of country, she definitely puts her own twist onto it with giving it a rock feel. You can hear that Texas accent of her’s in the music, but you definitely will not be hearing a banjo or a fiddle on most of her tracks. She is the new old school Miranda Lambert that us single girls need in our lives.

While she has a solid mixture of themes on her debut album Hero, she definitely gives off the vibe that she is a force to be reckoned with. Like any good album by a strong female, the theme is a mixture of girl power, love, and some solid man-hating. She has a song to cover every mood that you are in and can even touch on feelings that you didn’t know you were having.

Personally, if you are looking for a song to give you some motivation, I suggest Second Wind. It is like a country form of Katy Perry’s Roar. It is an empowering song that makes you want to take on that world. It is a song that makes your want to take down all the people that do not believe in you and prove them wrong. It is a song that at the end of a hard day, you want to sing at the top of your lungs.

As if you need more reason to check Maren out, she will be on tour with the beautiful Sam Hunt this summer! Be sure to check them out, as well as her Grammy award-winning music! Believe me, you will have it on replay in no time!
