Hello! I am Juliana Winik. I am a twenty-something-year-old, born and raised in the great white north (aka Canada)! I am excited to be writing for Unwritten, Writing has been a therapeutic outlet for me throughout my lifelong battle with mental illness, and the unfathomable curve balls life has thrown my family and me. I have been battling Anorexia Nervosa since the age of fourteen and lifelong General Anxiety Disorder. Despite a brief hospitalization in my first year of high school for medical stabilization due to the effects of Anorexia, I managed to live what resembled a "normal," and "thriving," life. I grew up dancing and opened my own Ballet School at the age of fifteen which ran successfully for 7 years, I graduated high school and went on to pursue a Nursing degree. However, in 3rd year Nursing school, it all came crashing down. I have spent the last three and a half years in a constant battle with Anorexia Nervosa. This has meant multiple hospitalizations and treatment programs which also meant dropping out of Nursing School. If that was not enough, a year and a half ago my dad was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). Of course, this was a devastating blow to our family. I am introverted, deep thinking, highly sensitive, and in tune emotional being. I ponder this life a lot, and I always, always come back to the beauty this world DOES possess. I hope through my writing I will be able to shed light on the beauty in the darkness. Cheers! xx
