Here’s A 2026 New Year’s Resolution I Can Get Behind

The new year is just around the corner, and it’s time to start thinking about New Year’s resolutions. While we usually all try to think of one for ourselves, I think we need some for society as well. You might be thinking something along the lines of “world peace,” no more ” poverty,” or maybe “no more homelessness”-something general like that for society. Still, it’s a lot simpler than that.

So what exactly is this New Year’s resolution for society that needs to be left behind in the next year?  It’s rewarding racists for their horrible behavior towards people who don’t look like them or people not from the U.S.

Recently, there was an incident in Wisconsin at a Cinnabon where an employee was saying racist slurs to a black Somali Muslim couple and admitting in the video that she was racist. So what exactly sparked this racist attack?

The customer said she ordered a caramel pecan cinnamon roll and asked the worker to add more caramel because it didn’t appear to have enough.

As a result of this incident, she was let go from Cinnabon. Cinnabon posted a statement on social media that the worker, whom it did not identify, was “immediately terminated” by the franchise owner over a “disturbing video” of the incident.

“Their actions and statements are completely unacceptable and in no way reflect the values of Cinnabon, our franchisees, or the welcoming environment we expect for every guest and team member,” the company said.

Cinnabon’s actions were appropriate; they did the right thing. Here, their behavior is not the one I am questioning; the people who put their hard-earned money toward a GoFundMe for a known racist and not the GoFundMe of the victims of this attack.

I am not surprised by this behavior at this point. I mean, based on how things have been lately for the country,  it’s been normalized. Look, we all know that America is racist, but that does not mean we need to be rewarding this behavior because that is what we do now. Just because it’s normalized now doesn’t mean that it has to continue into 2026

When the clock strikes 12, as we all set goals to better ourselves and our lives, we need to do the same collectively as a society to stop allowing this issue to continue and worsen. Don’t we all deserve that going into the new year?  I think so

This is especially important for the younger generation, who are growing up in a society where this is okay and normal, and where bad behavior is rewarded as a horrible person. To people who did nothing to anyone but went about their day.

We need a clean slate for 2026 for a whole host of reasons, but this is one resolution I think is doable, so you might be asking: how easy is it really? It’s not rewarding horrific behavior toward other people and holding them accountable when they do something wrong; it’s that simple.

When we know better, we do better. So why not do that in 2026, and let’s stop this horrible cycle and give 2026 a fighting chance? I am willing to try. Are you?

  1. his is a refreshing resolution idea for 2026, especially with how people are focusing on clarity and organization this year. For anyone trying to stay more informed with local legal information, you can explore tools like Washtenaw Case Search to simplify public record access. Having structured access to records really helps in understanding ongoing or past matters without unnecessary hassle. Definitely a practical direction for the new year mindset.
