Many of us have visited big cities before. They represent different facets of life. Some see them as adventurous. Others view them as diverse. And some see them as super fast-paced.
Cities have different personalities to them: Sometimes quiet, most times loud, and often, sophisticated. As many will say, the city never gets boring.
If you have lived in big cities, you may be able to relate to this poem:
The lights shine far beyond the skyline
The moon hides beneath a clutter of clouds
People pass daily, some with handwritten signs
But ‘tis the night where only the streetcars speak
Many residents don’t consider the east
Where the land is covered in grass
They all know the streetcar stops there last
As the railways turn to brass
Commuters usually turn to the west
A place of comfort and prestige
Hidden food places in a treasure’s chest
The scent and flavor puts one at ease
Then turn south and see the deck
Where a ship appears in the wind
In summer, people ride and turn their necks
To see children with their camps sing hymns
The centre is where people stay
Full of grey clouds and rain
You can see the students and people praying
Often for their fave sport team to win
I often ask what it’s like to grow up in
A place with too many people.
But they all say it’s not how the past has been
As they walk their beagles
The people are just like me and you
With plenty of dreams and goals
They often turn to the place for a view
Forgetting about the moments of growth.
We often forget about how much we’ve overcome when we live in the middle of big city life. Everything around us seems so sporadic, and we often get caught up in the littlest things in life. But if you find yourself forgetting about this, take a moment to reflect and realize that you did come a long way.
