Why Being Lazy Doesn’t Mean You Can’t Reach Your Fitness Goals

We all have goals. For people in their twenties, most goals are school or work-related or involve being as fit as that gym-junkie we follow on Instagram. Like all goals, laziness is a one of the biggest factors that prevents us from actually achieving them. Most of us have the gym membership, but lack the motivation to actually workout. There’s always an excuse; you’re too tired, too busy, or too overworked. Here are some tips that will help motivate you to get your butt to the gym, even on the worst of days.

1. Establish a non-food reward for after you finish your workout.
Tell yourself that if you go to the gym, you’ll earn two episodes of your favourite show before starting your homework. This kind of incentive will persuade you to get yourself out of the house.

2. Go to the gym when you’re already out doing something
Plan your workout around your class schedule, in the morning, or just before you head home for the day. Pack your workout gear before you leave the house – no excuses.

3. Change into your cutest workout clothes
Looking your best at the gym is a huge self-motivator. Yes, your butt does look good in those pants.

4. Plan to go with a friend
You’ll be less inclined to cancel your gym plans if you have someone depending on you to show up. You don’t want to be that friend who bails last minute. Going to the gym with a friend can even improve the quality of your workout; it’s always nice to have someone cheer you on.

5. Keep in mind that there will always be eye-candy at the gym
Have you ever gone to the gym and thought “wow, there is not one attractive person here”? That’s what I thought. You won’t be able to watch hot people do their thing if you never end up going.

6. While on the treadmill, set the speed low and the incline high
Get into the habit of power-walking with a high incline. Doing this will burn a ton of calories with seemingly less effort.

7. Make sure you have an awesome playlist
Filling your workout playlist with upbeat songs you love will encourage you to work harder. Download those Kygo remixes and lift weights to the beat.

8. Attend a class
A variation of classes are offered by most gyms and are usually free with the purchase of a membership. Once you’ve committed to a class, you have no choice but to participate. You’ll leave feeling sweaty and accomplished.

You’ve just earned some extra calories, make the most of them with lean proteins and healthy fats.

10. Post-workout periods of sleep are the best
You’ll feel refreshed and be able to get a good 8 hours of sleep in.

We all get the workout blues, but it’s important to incorporate exercise into your daily routine. No matter how busy you are, you can always set aside an hour for the gym at least three times a week. Remember, it’s impossible to build your butt while laying in bed.
