Why Carly Fiorina’s Response To Trump Is A Win For Women Everywhere

If you haven’t seen Carly Fiorina’s brilliant response to Trump’s insults at last night’s CNN Debate, you’ve probably heard about it.

“I think women all over this country heard very clearly what Mr. Trump said,” is the sentence that blew up the Internet and was received by massive applause in the Reagan library. And for good reason.

The fact is, women are more often declared capable of a job based on their appearance than on their skills. I’ve been told in a follow-up call after a job interview that I was, “a smart little thing.” I’ve received a message from the CEO of a small company I applied to saying, “I’m trying to keep this professional, but you’re like a supermodel.” Things like this happen to so many women on a daily basis, and it just now happened in our country on a very large scale when Carly Fiorina was said, by Trump, that her face was not attractive enough to lead our country.

Beautiful is the cheapest word out there to describe women.

He tried to save himself. Trump threw in that he thinks Fiorina has a “beautiful” face as if that was what mattered to her, or to the women of this country. Beautiful is the cheapest word out there to describe women. There is a time and place for it, but it doesn’t belong in politics, in the work place, or in the mouth of anyone who is trying to replace a woman’s worth with it. Smart, capable, strong, well-spoken – these are words that we should be using when we talk about the next leader of this country.

Hopefully now that Fiorina has had her say, Trump and anyone else who thinks that a woman’s capabilities are attached to her looks get the point. Hopefully now that Trump’s been shut down, we can start looking at what matters in Fiorina’s campaign. Hint: it has nothing to do with how beautiful or unattractive her face is.
