To the rest of the world, Canada is a small place where everybody knows everybody. However, in reality, it’s the second-largest country in the world. It’s impossible to know absolutely everyone in your own town, let alone be related to them.
However, Justin Bieber is bringing a whole new meaning to the 6th degree of separation.
Over the past weekend, the Biebs revealed that he has two very famous Canadian cousins.
The singer went through an ancestry check, and the genealogy site reports that two of his distant cousins include fellow Canadian singer, Avril Lavigne, and Canadian A-List actor, Ryan Gosling.
Yes, you read that right.
The Canadian crooner even posted the proof to his Instagram so his fans could actually believe it for themselves.
Avril Lavigne found humor in the revelation and extended an olive branch to her Canadian cousins, poking fun at their new-found relation.
Meanwhile, Justin’s longtime manager Scooter Braun claims he sees a resemblance.
I personally don’t, so I hope he’s joking.
This actually isn’t the first time the three stars have been linked as distant relatives. Back in 2012, People magazine made a report that the three Canadians relate to the legendary Canadian singer Celine Dion.
Here’s how exactly they’re all related:
- Justin and Ryan are 11th cousins, once removed.
- Justin and Celine are 10th cousins, three times removed.
- And Justin and Avril are 12th cousins.
Ancestry.com also stated in the initial People magazine article that all four celebrities have links to early settlers in the province of Quebec. Celine most notably was born and raised in the province, while Avril Lavigne has been linked to the predominantly French province as her name is French. (“Avril” means April in French).
Meanwhile, Justin and Ryan’s birthplace is Southern Ontario in communities that are just an hour away from one another. Rachel McAdams, Gosling’s ex, was also born at the same hospital and was raised in the same town as Gosling.
So if you are debating getting your ancestry test, I think these results prove that you never know who you could be related to. I mean, you too could be related to someone famous!
Never say never, right?
