5 Tips For Navigating The Texas Dating Scene

With over a quarter of a million square miles, Texas is the 2nd largest state in the Union. In all those square miles are single cowboys, cowgirls, rodeo kings, beauty queens, two-steppers, tailgaters, and maybe even a few crocodile wranglers. If you’re sitting at home alone on a Friday night, then you aren’t trying hard enough. It’s true that not everybody needs somebody, but let others speak for themselves.

If you want to find your other half, you aren’t going to find them sitting in front of the television munching on a bowl of Doritos. You’re going to have to put out a little effort, but you’re also going to have to keep an open mind. Here are 5 ways to find a date in the great state of Texas.

1. Meet People Online

A tried and true method for finding dateable people is using an online dating site like Matchmaker Houston. It’s actually an easy process. The hard part is going to be taking the perfect photo of yourself. Here’s a tip: Don’t use a bathroom mirror photo. Use photos that show you enjoy doing things that you love, whether that’s spending time in the garden or taking walks with your dog.

Also, be honest about who you are. One of the worst things you can do is present yourself as someone you are not. If you present the real you, you’ll be matched with someone who appreciates the real you.

2. Texas Two-Stepping

If there’s one thing people in Texas love doing it’s two-stepping. Two-stepping is a type of couple’s dance to country music. You don’t have to have the other half of the dance equation figured out when you go to a country music dance hall. Take a few lessons or learn from a friend before you go.

Once you’re there, if you’re a guy, you pick a pretty girl and ask her to join you on the floor. If you’re a girl, pick a handsome man and invite him, or simply sit and wait for someone to ask. There are no rules as to who can do the asking. Don’t forget to have fun, because you always look more approachable when you’re smiling.

3. Sunday School for Singles

A lot of Texas people also enjoy attending church on Sunday. In fact, in some small towns, it might seem like there’s a church on every block. A church is a great way to meet people who share the same values.

Many of the larger churches also offer Sunday school groups for single people. These groups host large social gatherings so you can meet other single people. Even if you don’t find “the one,” you’re sure to make a few new friends.

4. Grab a Thick Steak

Texas may not be the biggest state, but it can boast it has more cattle than any other state. Lots of cattle means lots of opportunities to grab a thick, juicy cut of steak. Grab your friends and make an evening of it, because you know who else will be there? Other single men and women like you, who also appreciate a great cut of steak.

5. TailGating at the Astrodome

Texas men and women also like Texas sports. In Texas, you’ll find several professional teams, including the Houston Astros. Outside the Astrodome, die-hard fans known as tailgaters set up outside their cars to listen to the game while mingling with other die-hard fans. It’s a great way to enjoy the game and meet new people.

Texas is a great state full of great people, many of whom are still single. There’s so much to do in Texas that there’s little excuse for not getting out and getting involved. Putting yourself out there is the only way you’re going to find your match, whether you put your photo up on an online dating site or get out and enjoy some of the wonderful activities. All you need to do is make a plan and go for it.
