How Listening To Shinedown’s Lyrics Can Change Your Life For The Better

Shinedown just released their 6th studio album called, ATTENTION, ATTENTION. I have been a fan of their music since the release of their album, Us And Them in 2005. But I didn’t become a hardcore Every single time I listen to this band and the lead singer, Brent Smith sing his heart out, I turn into an absolute fangirl as well as a puddle of tears.

Their lyrics always hit me right in the heart. When music leaves you vulnerable, open and can lift the heaviness of life for a while that type of connection is one that goes beyond the stereotypical music fan. I think we have all had that moment where you’re listening to your favorite singer/band and they play that one song that speaks to you. That moment where this one song sums up everything you have been thinking and going through, but you never find the right words on your own. For me, that moment came once again when I first heard Brent Smith sing the song, Get Up on YouTube. Here is the link: Get Up. One of the lines in the song touched me in a very personal way, and it goes like this:

“Don’t sell yourself short; you might be bulletproof.

Hard to move mountains when you’re paralyzed.

But you gotta try, and I’m callin’ out.”

This song moved me because I can relate to its universal message that even though life can sometimes feel as though it’s paralyzing you, that you still do your absolute best to get up the next day and keep moving.

Growing up facing obstacle after obstacle from the moment you enter the world like you’re faced with when you have a physical disability made this song even more special to me. My family has never been strangers to fighting tooth and nail just to live life to the absolute fullest. Mountains won’t move on their own, they only move when you make the attempt to move them. This song is a personal anthem for me that helps remind me that I am more capable than I am aware of, and it’s up to me to use it to better myself and whatever situation I happen to be facing at the moment.

Lyrics for the song can be found here.
