I’m guilty of hiding my personality from other people. One time, a bunch of people started to discuss their sex life, which I’m not really that open about. Instead of answering that I wouldn’t like to talk about it, I just decided to leave. It definitely was not the first time I’ve run away, avoided a question, or kept what I wanted to say unsaid. Why? Because I am afraid to be labelled “weird.” But I’m learning that there is nothing more wrong than this.
What is attractive for you? For me it is self-confidence. Not when a person brags about themselves all the time or insults others to look good, but when they are comfortable in their own skin. Even though they may not have a perfect face, makeup, body, or outfit, I find them beautiful. Have you ever noticed that others gravitate towards such people too? Self-confidence is sexy, but not everyone has it. Not because they don’t want to. They just don’t know how to get there or they keep telling themselves they can’t have it.
Self-confidence can come from many factors: experience, support from people we look up to, and so on. But there is one thing we truly need to feel confident – our choice to feel it and embrace it each and every day.
You can choose to build self-confidence in yourself each day through cherishing your personality, exploring and learning. Integrity within yourself is the main building block of confidence. It means going your own way, saying what you want to say, connecting with people you like and doing what you desire. When you make this choice consistently, you will learn who you really are and like yourself more. You also must explore the world. It will allow to understand your true desires and to go beyond your own limits.
Yes, there are people who are going to call you “weird”, but there will always be someone who dislikes us. On the other hand, there will always be people who are going to cherish us for the way we are. The world is huge and there are billions of people. Each person is different. Imagine what the world would be if everyone were the same. Besides, the word “weird” means “uncommon” and “unique”, which is not a bad thing. So don’t get offended, rather wear it as a badge of honor.
There is no other thing more important than following your heart each day. We may not have the perfect career, expensive clothes or a great body, but it does not mean that we have to hide ourselves in shells. These things can’t make us shine. Our unique personality can. Each day do what you want to do and be the person you want to be – wildly and gloriously “weird.”
