What We Can Learn From Cara Delevigne’s Battle With Skin Disorders

There's a solution to every problem.

Let’s talk about Cara Delevigne.

Her face is recognized around the globe and she possesses a personality worthy of constant media attention. You’ll usually find her on your newsfeed at one point or another, and we’re forced to either love or hate the 23-year-old model.

But regardless of your personal opinion, her latest confession is worthy of all the praise we can muster up. When we look at models, we see effortless beauty. A physique like a ballerina with a flawless complexion like Beyoncé is what catches our attention, without looking under the surface.

In Cara’s latest interview in London’s Times, the 23-year-old reveals modeling wasn’t all rainbows and sunshine as she suffered silently from skin conditions no one knew about.

She said “I was like fight and flight for months. Just constantly on edge,” says Cara. “It is a mental thing as well because if you hate yourself and your body and the way you look, it just gets worse and worse.”

Her stress inevitably caused her to develop psoriasis (a skin condition which causes your skin to turn typically red, itchy, and scaly) and makeup artists had to practically paint foundation over her breakouts.

“I am not doing fashion work anymore, after having, like, psoriasis and all that stuff,” the 23-year-old said. “Modeling just made me feel a bit hollow after a while. It didn’t make me grow at all as a human being. And I kind of forgot how young I was…I felt so old.”

Acne – in any form – can be the primary cause of a low self-esteem and anxiety. What’s important to realize is that you’re not alone (Even the hottest models know how you feel) – and acne as well as other skin conditions can come in your life at any age. Luckily, treating these conditions isn’t difficult. On the contrary, it’s quite simple and it’s called BioHacking.

According to Dave Asprey, author of NY times bestseller The Bulletproof Diet, Biohacking (as he refers it) is not as difficult as you imagine.

To use systems thinking, science, biology, and self-experimentation to take control of and upgrade your body, your mind, and your life.

“Bio hacking” is the term used for the art of hacking biology; using nature’s built-in mechanisms to your advantage. Ever heard the phrase, “Use what mother nature gave you?” Well, biohacking is just that.

Our skin suffers from countless of factors each and every day. The food you eat and the air you breathe all has a direct impact on your skin. While billboards and commercials succeed in making you think you need all the products in the world for Flawless skin, this couldn’t be farther from the truth.
