What You Need to Know About the Long Awaited ‘Twilight’ Prequel

That’s right Twihards, Stephenie Meyer finally confirmed another Twilight book is on its way!

After 15 years of waiting, Meyer announced she will be releasing a prequel to her widely successful series Twilight, titled Midnight Sun, on August 4th, 2020. The latest installment will feature Edward Cullen’s perspective.

In her official statement she said, “I can’t express how much I appreciate the patience of my readers, and their support over the years it took to finish Midnight Sun.”

Before her announcement, the Twitter universe was spiraling as she teased her readers online this past weekend. Meyer started a countdown going on her website where fans immediately became excited and began speculating about what this could mean.

In fact, the timer generated so much excitement that the site crashed Monday morning due to high site traffic.

The announcement also left some fans guessing that Meyer would release a prequel from Edward’s point of view, which has now been confirmed. Clearly fans know how to do some investigating and are very much on board for this new novel.

Additionally, NOVL publishing house shared a first glimpse of the new artwork for the book.

And you can pre-order the book online too!

The book certainly has been a long time coming for fans. In fact, an early draft of the book was leaked on the internet back in 2008. It seems like this release could not have come at a more perfect time for people.

Meyer also addressed the fact that the announcement comes at a strange time. She said, “It feels strange to be making this announcement when the world is suffering through a pandemic, and no one really knows what’s next. I thought seriously about delaying this announcement until things were back to normal; however, that felt wrong, considering how long those who are eager for this book have already waited.”

She went on to say, “I know how much I personally need distractions right now, how much I need something to look forward to, and most of all, how much I need more books to read. So, I hope this book gives my readers a little pleasure to anticipate and, after it arrives, a chance to live in an imaginary world for a while.”

Her Twilight series has sold more than 100 million copies worldwide and was adapted into a blockbuster film franchise with one of the largest fan followings of any book series. It also launched the careers of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.

Team Edward fans have since rejoiced on twitter as “Edward” has been trending all day.
