It’s time for White Chicks to make a comeback and, in the words of Marcus Copeland, “Triple TKA… Time to totally kick ass!” 15 years after the original film premiered, news of a potential second installment was announced by none other than Terry Crews.
The America’s Got Talent host and Brooklyn Nine-Nine star confirmed Sunday on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen that he and his former co-star/screenwriter, Shawn Wayans, are talking about a follow-up to the iconic film. “You know what, I actually got with Shawn, and he was like man we doing it, we get it going,” Crews said.
If you haven’t had the pleasure of watching the original 2004 film, you’re missing out: The iconic 2004 comedy follows Shawn and Marlon Wayans, who play dishonored FBI agents. They have to go undercover as “White Chicks” to protect a pair of hotel heiresses. Crews co-starred as the hilarious Latrell Spencer, a professional basketball player who falls in love with Marlon as a female character. Crews’ character is best known for his hilarious and ridiculous rendition of “Thousand Miles.”
According to Screen Rant, “White Chicks” grossed $70 million domestically and $42 million internationally. The film’s budget was only $37 million.
“I’ve stayed in shape just for that movie,” Crews told Cohen last week. “I’ve been working out for 15 years so we could do White Chicks 2 y’all.” Because the film is still in the beginning stages, the plotline and other important facts about the movie haven’t been released yet.
Despite Crews’ passion for the sequel, Marlon quickly took to Instagram to respond to Crew’s claim. “My face when @terrycrews tells the world #whitechicks2 is happening but we still don’t have a deal in place. Now every fanworld wise DMs excitedly ‘IS THIS TRUE’?! Um… NO! Not yet. #ohterry.”
Marlon has, however, commented on the possibility of a sequel in the past. He told MTV, “I don’t know, but there have been some rumblings happening, and a lot of people want us to do it, so me and my brothers have been talking… So if things go right, we hope to do a White Chicks 2.”
Previously he also told Us Weekly that he’s staying in shape for the movie, just like Crews. “I will never, ever get out of shape because that movie’s going to happen one day,” he said.
So basically, White Chicks 2 is still up in the air. It very much could happen, but nothing has been officially announced. However, the cast is still up to make a second film, which is good news for fans! Unwritten will keep you posted about the latest White Chicks 2 developments.
