The program provides grants to individuals and families looking to renovate abandoned or run-down homes on Ireland’s remote islands. Eligible properties must have been built before 1993 and also must have been unoccupied for at least two years. The aim is to sustainably repopulate rural communities, many of which declined in population when former residents settled in urban areas.
Which islands can you choose to live on?
The initiative includes 30 islands. All eligible islands are off the Irish coast and are inaccessible by bridges or causeways. Some of the most famous islands in this group include:
