In case you haven’t heard, Wicked: Part One came out recently, and so many people have already gone to see it. With stars like Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, and several others, it’s hard not to be excited about the film. I know I’m dying to see it!
Leading up to the release, Cynthia and Ariana were on a press tour for the movie, and my FYP was flooded with clips of them laughing, crying, and talking about their time on set. They even got matching tattoos! Watching these clips, it’s so clear that these two became incredibly close while filming. Some people have even speculated they’re romantically linked. Whether that’s true or not, I have no idea, but what I do know is that they’ve developed a rare kind of friendship—one most of us don’t encounter in our lives.
In almost every clip, you’ll see them holding hands, resting a hand on the other’s leg, or intertwining fingers. When Cynthia was asked about their connection, she explained, “Ari needs contact when there’s emotion. So she needs to be close, so I just be there with her for a second.” That quote stuck with me. It’s not just a sweet insight into why they seem so close—it’s a perfect example of how deeply Cynthia understands Ariana. They just get each other, and it shows.
That kind of connection is rare. It’s the type of friendship we all crave: someone who knows us better than we know ourselves, where pieces of us seem to fit together like a puzzle. Honestly, I think this might be one of the most authentic friendships Ariana has ever had. It’s amazing that we get to witness it. Over the years, Ariana has been through so much—heartbreaks, tragedies, and the relentless pressures of being in the spotlight. Of course, she’s always had a strong support system, but having a friend like Cynthia, someone who provides grounding and comfort in such a natural way, must mean the world to her.
Cynthia, too, radiates a warmth that makes you understand why this friendship works.
