How To Have A Banging New Year’s Eve Without Alcohol

It’s New Year’s Eve and I am left reflecting on the old days. The days when holidays (such as NYE itself), allowed me to get as wasted as possible without being questioned. I could pound shots freely with my friends as long as I was wearing a sexy dress and my body covered in glitter. This will be my 5th sober NYE, and things have certainly changed! I’m 30, tired and will be asleep well before midnight!

However, holidays as a non-drinker don’t need to be a bore. Hell, my first sober New Years I went out and danced my ass off, well past the final countdown – I had a freaking blast! I was still a hot mess the following morning, as I rolled out of bed with last nights makeup smeared across my face, but I remembered every second of the night before and I woke up in my own bed knowing exactly how I had gotten there.

I don’t shame people into not drinking – go out, have a blast and stay safe! But, if you’re looking for something other than expensive drinks in crowded bars, we’ve made a fun little list of ideas – and guess what? We can still wear our glitter.

Treat yourself to a staycation

One of the many perks of not drinking is simultaneously not emptying your wallet. This NY, use the money you’d normally spend on alcohol and stay at a fancy local hotel. Chill in a beautiful room, take a long bath (candles and all), wrap yourself in a luxurious robe and enjoy your evening.

Hookah Lounge

Hookah is my go-to when I’m in the mood to dress cute and mingle. It’s the perfect way to feel like I’m out having fun as an adult, without actually going ‘out.’ Do some research! Your local hookah bar may even have a DJ, you can blow smoke rings, sway to the music and bring in the New Year with your pals.

Ice Skating

Ice skating is the perfect family activity. Perhaps you’re not going bar hopping this NY because you have your kiddos – but that doesn’t mean you have to stay inside and watch tv! Many of the ice rinks in my area offer NYE hours and specials. Find the right place for your family, bundle up and channel your inner Michelle Kwan, on the ice.

Host a game night

A game night is a great way to get your family and friends together on New Years. Get a bunch of everyone’s favorite board games such as Trouble, Candyland or Family Feud and go crazy! Maybe put out a few finger foods for everyone to eat too. It doesn’t matter what you do during game night, just have fun, have good laughs and eat your hearts out!

Go to an escape room

I’ve always wanted to try one of these, I hear they are a blast! Looking for something fun to do with family on New Years? Why not go to an escape room. Weather you want a scary room or a simple low key one, give it a try! Do you have little ones that love solving mysteries? They will esspecally love this activity!

Go on an appetizer crawl

You’re probably wondering, “What the heck is this.” Well, it’s simple. If you’re someone like me who loves food, especially apps, then this is the thing for you!  Gather together and go out to a bunch of different restaurants and try different apps! Now, who wouldn’t enjoy this? I definitely would.

Most people may think New Year’s Eve is all about drinking, going to bars and getting wasted. It’s not. It’s all about having fun and making memories with the people you love. Life is short and you only live once. This year do NYE right and don’t waste your money on bars and drinking. Go out there, have fun and drink a Coke or Pepsi instead!
