6 Things You Need To Do This Summer Before Heading Back To School

Going back to school is quite the ordeal, no matter how many times you have done it. There is so much to pack, organize, and prepare before you move into your new space.  You also need to make sure everything is ready for college itself, ensuring all the proper paperwork is completed. With just a little over a month left before the school year begins, I have already begun preparing and organizing since there’s so much to do. If you want to make sure you are getting it all done without missing any steps, check out my tips to help you push through the chaos and get organized for college!

Freshen up your computer

By the end of each semester, my computer is cluttered with old files I don’t need anymore, plus it looks pretty dusty and in need of cleaning. So, I set aside some time to give it a good cleaning, both inside and out. I then go through all my files and pictures, deleting what I don’t need or want anymore and organizing it all in order to declutter my digital messes. I always feel better starting the new semester off with a freshly organized and clean laptop.

Set up your planner

I am obsessed with planners and highly recommend them to all college students. Once you find one that you like, it’s important to set it up and have it ready for when classes start. Write down your schedule and buy some colored pens so you can assign each class a color. You will be thankful you did!

Write down your goals for the semester

If you want to get the most out of your education, making a list with both academic and personal goals will help you get there. You will probably add to this list throughout the semester, so leave room. Having goals provides you with an opportunity to set yourself up for success. You will know what you want to accomplish and have something to work towards. You won’t be going in blindly.

Come up with a daily routine

Once classes begin, your class schedule will pretty much run your life, so it’s good to create a routine that allows you to go through your day with minimal stress. If you have long periods between classes, schedule things like working out, studying, and laundry. Having a routine will help you immensely. Also, don’t forget to leave time for self-care and leisure, too!

Create lists

Make lists of everything you need to do and everything you need to pack. It makes it easier when it comes time to get organized. Making lists gives you a visual representation of marking things off. You will be able to see what you have finished and what still needs to be done.

Start waking up earlier

Start getting used to the idea of waking up earlier. This also means start getting used to going to bed earlier. I recommend getting up at the same time everyday so your body gets used to it. Eventually you will get used to it and it won’t be so difficult to get out of bed in the morning.

Whether it’s your first time moving into a dorm or something you have done many times, it’s always important to be organized and plan ahead. These are all things I have found to be extremely effective when preparing to return to school. Getting ready can be stressful, but using this list will help. Remember, these are all steps that will make your life so much easier over the next few weeks.
