No Matter What People Say, True Love Isn’t Blind

How many times have you heard the phrase, “Love is blind”?

It’s everywhere, from entertainment, to casual conversations, and social media. More often than not, it’s used as a false reassurance for not knowing your partner has been cheating on you. After all, the only reason you didn’t know was because you loved them. You had those rose-tinted glasses on, so you didn’t know what was happening. But the truth is that that’s just a good liar, not someone who loves you.

Here’s the thing: If two people really love each other, their love isn’t blind at all. It has perfect vision.

Now a crush is blind as a bat. Even lust can be a little hard-sighted at times. Your partner is only showing you the little parts they want you to see, and you’re still giddy with the excitement of starting a new relationship. So, you naturally think they’re the most perfect human in existence. But once the mystery dies, you begin to learn who this person really is. And if you can still see they’re perfect, it gets real.

When you truly love someone, you can see their every flaw. You see every annoying little thing they do, but you learn to deal with them anyway.

You can clearly see any problems they might bring into your life and the issues you two may have to face. But you have to decide if they are worth it and then work to overcome these obstacles anyway.

You can see the truth about their past, not the version you want to hear. And knowing this, you can still focus on who they are, and who they will become.

You can see what they aren’t saying, whether they’re sad or uncomfortable. And you know how to be there for them.

You can see the parts of them you’d never noticed before — the way they bite their lip when they focus or how they get excited talking about something they love. And you think it makes them even more beautiful.

As crushing as it may be, you can see if it’s the end of your story together as well. But you can be comforted by knowing you truly and honestly loved and were loved by someone.

And most of all, you can see your future together. And it looks crystal clear.
