National Film Score Day: 10 Composers You Should Listen To On Spotify

For the majority of us, music is an integral part of life. Music helps us cope with bad days, and it also helps us enjoy our happiest moments. What’s more, songs can bring back memories and feelings that we thought we could no longer experience. Music is also a vital part of the film industry — almost every movie these days has a film score. So today, to celebrate National Film Score Day, here are some of the composers behind our favorite film scores.

1. Hans Zimmer

Hans Zimmer, a German composer, has scored a multitude of films, such as Inception, The Dark Knight trilogy, Man of Steel, and Pirates of the Caribbean. Moreover, he has received many prestigious awards for his brilliant music, most notably a Grammy for The Dark Knight’s score and an Oscar for the score of The Lion King. Zimmer’s classical approach to music makes him unforgettable, which is why many directors seek him out.

2. Brian Tyler

One of the younger, more popular composers, Brian Tyler, composed music for all of the Fast & Furious movies as well as Thor: The Dark World and Iron Man 3. His music is more upbeat than the music that some of his colleagues compose, so he often works on action and fantasy films. Moreover, Tyler scored the new version of the familiar Universal pictures theme back in 2012.

3. Carter Burwell

Carter Burwell is a famous composer, and we know him best for scoring the first and last Twilight saga films. He received a well-deserved first Academy Award for Carol and has since continued to grace us with his talent. Burwell’s classical, piano-based sound is wonderful background music for late-night studying or relaxing.

4. Alexandre Desplat

Born and raised in France, Alexandre Desplat is an award-winning composer whose music has been featured in a variety of films, like Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and the upcoming Marvel film, Black Widow. Furthermore, he’s composed songs not just for films in English but also for French directors. His sound is unique because it focuses on a playful mix of various instruments, particularly piano and violin.

5. Ramin Djawadi

Ramin Djawadi, a German composer, composed tunes for every season of Game of Thrones, as well as many other famous TV shows, such as Prison Break and Westworld. His sound ranges from melancholic to energetic, and he loves to experiment with new projects. What’s more, back in 2017, he went on tour with his Game of Thrones score music.

6. Henry Jackman

Born in London, Henry Jackman mainly composes film music. He’s scored Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, and Captain Phillips, among others. Hans Zimmer has mentored Henry Jackman since the beginning of Jackman’s career, and his help definitely paid off — Jackman has won various film scoring awards and has become a world-famous composer.

7. Atli Örvarsson

We know Atli Örvarsson, who was born and raised in Iceland, for scoring all the TV shows in the Chicago franchise as well as a couple of big movies, like The Edge of Seventeen and the entire Pirates of the Caribbean series. Currently, Örvarsson works closely with Hans Zimmer at Remote Control Productions.

8. Blake Neely

Thanks to his experience scoring Riverdale and most of DC Comics’ TV shows, Blake Neely is a television scoring veteran. What’s more, Neely is also an author who’s written a number of books on composing. The talented scorer also collaborates closely with composer James Newton Howard on movies and TV shows.

9. Steve Jablonsky

Most notably, Steve Jablonsky has scored all of the Transformers movies as well as the newest Netflix release, Spenser Confidential. Jablonsky has also scored The Sims 3 and a few other video games. His sound is nostalgic and calm, so no matter what mood you’re in, his music is a nice listen.

10. James Newton Howard

James Newton Howard has scored over 100 films and has been nominated for Grammy Awards, Academy Awards, and Emmys. He scored The Dark Knight trilogy in collaboration with Hans Zimmer. Most notably, Howard also composed the music for Pretty Woman and Blood Diamond as well as many other award-winning productions.
