On Tuesday, August 26, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce announced their engagement. In case you didn’t know, the couple started dating in 2023, and ever since, they’ve been a favorite celebrity couple. Many Swifties have become fans of Travis Kelce and the Chiefs, and it’s almost unanimous among Taylor’s fans that Travis is the best partner that the world-famous singer-songwriter has ever had.
I’ve been a Taylor Swift fan since I was in fifth grade. My friend Lauren wanted me to listen to “Love Story,” and from that day forward, I became a proud Swiftie. I spent plenty of my free time in my room, singing Taylor’s songs at the top of my lungs and dancing on my bed. Like many other Swifties, I turned to Taylor Swift’s music both when I was on top of the world and when I hit rock bottom.
Taylor has never been just a musician.
She has also been a guide, mentor, and older sister figure to many of her fans. And that’s why hearing about her engagement hits so deeply — because it’s not just about the fact that our favorite singer got engaged. The girl who serenaded us through every era of our lives now has taken a huge step forward in her own life, and it’s exciting.
When I found out that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce were engaged, I was as happy as I would have been if my best friend’s partner had proposed. When it comes to dating, Taylor has been through the wringer. For Taylor Swift to finally find the love story that she sang about as a teenager means the world to her fans.
On August 13, Taylor spoke about the beginning of her relationship with Travis Kelce’s New Heights podcast. Travis made Taylor a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it, and though the bracelet didn’t reach Taylor, Kelce didn’t give up, and the two finally met in person.
Taylor had been Travis’s celebrity crush for years.
There’s even a video of Travis playing “Marry, Kiss, or Kill” where Taylor was one of the celebrities mentioned.
Taylor is just as ecstatic about Kelce — on New Heights, she revealed that she finally has the love story that she wrote about for years.
That’s when it clicked for me: Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce manifested their relationship.
Taylor spent over 20 years writing songs about the love that she wanted, penning lyrics like, “I’m gonna find someone someday who might actually treat me well.” In the lyric booklets that accompanied her CDs, she included random capital letters that spelled out “code messages.” In her hit song Love Story, the hidden message in the CD booklet spelled “Someday I’ll find this.” Taylor Swift put her faith in her ability to fall in love into her songs, and in the process, she manifested the love of her life, proposing to her.
