We’ve always heard tales of people from small towns moving to big cities to pursue their dreams and ambitions. But what about those who grew up in a big city and chose to live somewhere else?
If you grew up in a metropolitan city, you definitely know what I mean. And here are 20 signs you’re definitely from a big, metropolitan city:
1. You walk fast.
When you’re in the city, you’re trying to rush everywhere. You know those coffee shop lineups are long, but you can’t miss the train coming in two minutes. “Hustle and bustle” is everywhere, and you follow that well.
2. You talk fast.
After all, you’re trying to get your point across and have something else to do. Prioritization then becomes difficult.
3. You’re indecisive.
Your mind travels more than 1000 kilometers an hour because you’re always thinking about the next step. So, you may come across as indecisive. But in reality, life can be too slow at times.
4. You’re always in a rush.
After all, you need to get out the door quickly every morning.
5. Whatever happens in public, you ignore it.
After all, you have seen the most interesting scenarios ever.
6. You know the road intersections at the back of your head.
That’s how you get by in the city; you would ask people about road intersections and try to find your way to a place.
7. When you’re in an area out of the city, it’s easy to get lost.
All that you see are plains, the same buildings, and grass over and over again.
8. You hate rush hour.
It’s way too crammed.
9. You never take photos of skyscrapers.
Whenever you see tourists, you genuinely question why the skyscrapers seem so interesting.
10. Whenever tourists mention a tourist attraction, you find it difficult to answer.
You simply know that you’ve been to that place a long time ago, perhaps when you were a kid. So, how can you remember what it was like?
11. You try to walk past people instead of following them from behind.
“You’re too slow. Speed up!”
12. You’re always looking for shortcuts.
Because you want to get to your destination quickly, and sometimes the only answer is with a shortcut.
13. You rarely drive.
You’d rather commute or fly. After all, what’s the point of driving when it’s all congested?
14. You’ve been on a form of transportation other than a bus, a car, or a subway.
Enter the streetcar!
15. You notice yourself getting out of the city pretty often.
It may be because of burnout but being around way too many people at once is too exhausting.
16. You find it difficult to move out.
The prices are way too high. And if you have grown up in the city, you know how difficult it is to get a place.
17. You feel the need to travel.
Sometimes, you just want to drop your bags off and head for the airport.
18. Whenever you drive past your elementary school, nostalgia hits you.
You know the city was so much different back then.
19. You can’t stop repping your city wherever you go.
“I’m from Scarborough, in the 6ix!”
20. You know that sometimes, you’ll hate your city for what it turned out to be. But then you know that the city will always be part of you.
Because it’s my city!
If you grew up in a big city, you may feel you’re a small fish in a big pond. But in the end, you have a lot of places to explore and adventures to embark on. Wherever you go, you’ll be proud of the city you’re from. Even if you move to a new city, a piece of you will still be in the one you left behind.

I never meet anyone who doesn’t hate rush hour and traffic jam.
I didn’t grow up in a big city but moved from the countryside to the city to study and work, but I also have a lot of similarities, I miss the university every time I pass by, hate traffic jams and miss the restaurants and old friends
