One of my favorite places to travel to when it comes to trying different types of foods is Puerto Rico, which is known for its beautiful scenery and delicious cuisine. Puerto Rican foods have a mix of Spanish, African, and Indigenous influences, creating unique and flavorful dishes. From mofongo, a dish made with mashed plantains, to lechón asado, a traditional roasted pork dish, there is something for everyone. Puerto Rico truly is a culinary paradise.

In light of that, here are the six foods you should try while in Puerto Rico

This is definitely a must-try, especially if you’re a lover of pork and tender meat that comes right off the bone. When you taste Pernil, you’ll definitely taste the pig, and its skin will bring your tastebuds to heaven. The flavor is unique and unforgettable. Now if you’re someone who loves sweets, rice, and cinnamon, this is the perfect treat for you to try. It will take you on a different journey than you’ve ever been on. The creamy textures of the coconut milk and the softness of the cooked rice creates a unique and delicious combination. The hint of cinnamon along with the sweetness of the condensed milk can make anyone’s mouth water. It’s a must-try for anyone who loves sweet treats.

If you like lasagna, you will definitely enjoy traditional Pastelón, which has three layers of bananas, meat, and cheese. It’s a delicious dish that will make your tastebuds want to do the salsa. The bananas are thinly sliced and layered with a savory sauce made with ground beef, onions, and spices. The top layer is melted cheese and a light sprinkle of crushed crackers or bread crumbs. This dish is a great option for a family dinner or a special occasion.

5. Bacalaitos

If you like pancakes and fried fish, Bacalasitos is definitely the dish you desire, taking you on a trip to the sea and giving you a sweet tour to breakfast between the fried and sweet. Your taste buds are definitely in for a treat. It is a combination of two cultures in one dish that will make your mouth water. The salty fish with the sweet pancakes will give you an amazing flavor.
