5 Tips For Organizing Your Makeup And Beauty Supplies

You may have experienced opening your makeup drawer or box only to think “I have got to get this under control.” You would not be alone. Makeup is difficult to keep neat and organized, and it is easy to find yourself reaching through a sea of ten different kinds of mascara (five of which are dried out and unusable) to find the one that you need. Don’t worry. There are easy ways for you to sort through the mess and have your makeup storage looking as pretty as your face.

1. Purge

One of the most common reasons that people struggle with maintaining their beauty supplies is that they hold on to items for far longer than they should. Most beauty products need to be thrown out and replaced anywhere from six months to two years, depending on the type. You likely have that tube of lipstick that you wore one time for a Halloween costume five years ago and that you are waiting for another opportunity to wear. We all have that beauty product that we just can’t let go of. It might hurt, but it will also hurt if you get pinkeye from the bacteria that has accumulated in your eyeshadow that you wore to senior prom. Tossing it in the trash will free up so much space and allow you to organize it the way you want.

2. Categorize

Separate your makeup into categories. You can make as many categories as you like, but it is advisable to have at least three- lip products, eye products, and products that go on the rest of your face (such as foundation or blush). Separating these items will make them easier to find when you are in a rush. You may consider getting a custom drawer organizer to separate these categories and ensure that each item has a place to return to when you are finished using it.

3. Take Your Time

When you are in a rush to get ready in the morning, it can be easy to leave your beauty products scattered across your counter or shove them unceremoniously back into the drawer. This may seem like it is benefitting you at the moment, but in the long run, it can be harmful. Caps can come off of lipstick, tubes of mascara can fall between cracks, and eyebrow pencils can accidentally end up in the eyeliner container. When cleaning up your makeup station, it is better overall to take your time to put your tools away, even if it means getting up earlier to allow yourself a little extra time.

4. Think Vertical

When looking for storage solutions for your makeup, it is important to consider the space you are working with. In order to take up less counter space, it can be beneficial to get a tiered container for some of your makeup tools such as brushes, sponges, and cotton swabs. This way, you can have twice the amount of storage in the same amount of space on your counter. This frees up room to keep other items and to have a workspace where you can keep a mirror and lay out your products when you are using them.

5. Use Labels

Labels can be a handy way to keep any area organized and put together. Label each section of your drawer with what is meant to go there to eliminate confusion when putting your products away. Labeling your tools can also be a great idea if you’re the kind of person that keeps forgetting which brush is for foundation and which is for blush. You can also use labels to keep track of when you purchased each product so that you know when it is time to toss it out.

Even though organizing your beauty products can seem overwhelming, it is well worth it in the end to have a space that is free of clutter. Your makeup station will look so much better, and it will be so much easier to get through your morning routine when you aren’t fishing around for a tiny compact blush that could be anywhere.

Organizing your makeup and other beauty supplies can feel overwhelming. If you use these tips, though, you’ll be much better off.
