5 Ways To Use Your Phone To Increase Your Work Productivity

Whether we’re going somewhere, waiting for a friend, or working, we constantly feel a need to check our phones. Even when they don’t ring or buzz, we still take them out and scroll through our Facebook or Instagram feeds, check email, or watch YouTube clips (typically to procrastinate on our work).

Sound familiar?

You’re not alone.

In fact, 49% of Americans say that they “couldn’t live without” their smartphones. The average person checks their phones 47 times per day and spends approximately 3 hours per day doing non-voice activities on their device.

Although many employers cite smartphones as a significant interruption to productivity, your phone can be so much more than just a distraction. As more companies take the plunge into remote work and many millennials take on jobs that offer increasing amounts of schedule flexibility, our phones can actually help us all stay more productive. Here are five ways that we can all use our smartphones to work more efficiently, even when we’re on the go:

1. Manage Your Workload

Regardless of your profession, you need to prioritize your workload. Thankfully, task management apps like MeisterTask provide easy access to your work at any time. You can quickly scroll through your tasks for the day, including urgent duties, critical reminders, and your schedule while you grab your morning coffee. Once you arrive at the office, you’ll feel ready to tackle the day, and your supervisors will love your increased productivity.

2. Send Emails

Did you know that most of us send out 40 work-related emails per day? Writing emails can feel like such a time-consuming task. However, if you shoot off those annoying emails while you’re on the move, you’ll save tons of time! You can write emails from your phone anytime and anywhere.

3. Organize Conference Calls

Sadly, most people spend 31 hours in meetings each month. But do we really need to schedule time for everyone to sit around a table while two people talk for hours and the rest of us are completely unproductive? When we use apps like Facetime, Skype, or What’sUp, we can stay in touch with our coworkers or clients without carving out time for everyone to meet in the same location. And what’s more, live videos allow you to make eye contact with your colleagues and help your call be more productive.

4. Write Down Creative Ideas

We constantly think of ways to improve our work, but sometimes our creative ideas come at the most random times, like when we walk our dogs or wait for our lunch. Since you never know when a creative idea will strike you, it’s crucial to take notes as soon as the thought enters your brain. There’s no better way to use your phone than to create notes about your spur-of-the-moment creative ideas. Do your homework, and give it a try today.

5. Network with Colleagues

If you want to climb the career ladder, you need to network with colleagues.  Though networking can take a considerable amount of time, you can save it for later, thanks to technology. Once you have time, use your phone to network with colleagues. Use professional social media platforms like LinkedIn to easily build your connections and professional network.

Although some may say that smartphones cause Millennials and Gen Z’ers constant distractions, that’s not entirely true. We can easily turn our phones into a handy productivity tool to help us work smarter, not harder.
