How To Stop Depression From Taking Over Your Life

Sometimes it is a struggle just to get through the day.

People will stop by and say, “Hey. Are you okay?”

I tell them, “Sure! I’m fine.”, but it’s all lies.

They can tell by the sad look in my eyes.

It all started on that fateful day, when they all went away.

I was never the same,

and now I’m not on top of my game.

Before I can get rejected, I have already walked away.

It’s okay, because my heart wasn’t even in it anyway.

An estimated 350 million people suffer from depression worldwide. 350 million people with a gaping hole in their chests. Some of the symptoms of depression include feeling helpless, hopeless, and worthless. If you are feeling blue, or heck, if you maybe don’t even know what you’re feeling…I’d like to share some thoughts to help you to become more confident, less intense, and more in control.

I’ve noticed that some of us try harder than others to succeed. I think that some people are afraid to continue to persevere after they have already failed. We tell people these lies about how they aren’t allowed to fail because, well, that would defeat the entire purpose. This stems from the belief that everyone has to be perfect. Hello – wake up call! Nobody will ever be perfect. No matter how hard we try, we will always be flawed. Therefore, our mistakes do not reduce our self-worth.

We can only do the best that we can, and remember that our flaws make us unique and beautiful.

Truly confident people are aware of their self-worth, regardless of the opinions of others. Although we owe it to ourselves and to others to put our best effort forward, we should also allow ourselves and others to make mistakes. Your worth doesn’t fluctuate according to your accomplishments or failures. It also doesn’t fluctuate based upon other people’s approval or disapproval of you. Their approval is fleeting, but your self-worth is constant.

Sometimes you will succeed, and sometimes you will fail. Some people will like you, and some people will not. These are just the facts of life: the basics of humanity that we just have to accept. You can’t change that. Once you realize this truth, you will be more confident and resilient. You will also have more respect for yourself and for others, and you will have more inner peace. I hope that the day will come when you will fully accept this truth, if you haven’t already. Good luck to you on your journey.
