10 Snacks You Need To Celebrate National Chocolate-Covered Anything Day

Chocolate is one of my guiltiest pleasures, and if I could – I would incorporate chocolate in every meal of every day of my life. Unfortunately, I can’t, and have to indulge in moderation. I have realized that the only thing better than just chocolate is when something is covered in it. While chocolate-covered anything is sold everywhere now, it’s also super easy and inexpensive to make at home.

To make these delicious treats at home, take a look at the following instructions:
– Temper a pound of semisweet or milk chocolate with two teaspoons of shortening.
– Dip whatever food you want into the chocolate and let the excess drip off.
– Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment and let set at room temperature for 30 minutes to 4 hours.

December 16th is National Chocolate-Covered Anything Day, and to celebrate – here’s a list of 10 things that taste better smothered in chocolaty goodness!

1. Fruit

The most traditional chocolate covered snack! My personal favorites are strawberries and apples, but really – any chocolate covered fruit is worth trying out.

2. Almonds

These bring the right amount of sweet and nutty to your life. You get the sweetness before crunching in and tasting the almonds, and it is one of the best mixes.

3. Bacon

I was super skeptical of this when I first heard about it but it has been dubbed as a “North American” novelty, so I thought why not. Surprisingly, it tastes good.

4. Popcorn

Sweet & salty has never tasted as good as chocolate-covered popcorn does. You get a classic movie snack, with a sweet spin added in.

5. Caramel

Bring on the sugar overload! Those days when you feel like all you want to do is relax, and just binge out – this is what chocolate covered caramels are for.

6. Carrots

You know that struggle of trying to be healthy but then only craving chocolate? This is the perfect solution to that struggle, you get your vegetables in while still being able to indulge a little.

7. Ice Cream

Some days, you just have a hard day and just need to sit down with a pint of chocolate. Make the night even better by adding chocolate. Bonus if it’s already chocolate ice cream! This is the perfect treat to curl up into bed and binge-watch Netflix.

8. Churros

Missing summer nights, or the fair? Reminisce with a fair-stapled food – chocolate-covered churros! These doughy treats mixed with chocolate are a great way to bring the fair to you instead of going to spend a ridiculous amount of money on unsafe rides, and overpriced food.

9. Chocolate

Double or maybe triple the chocolate sweetness by dipping your favorite chocolate bar with more chocolate. Mix it up and try how two chocolate flavors taste together. You can’t go wrong with chocolate and chocolate.

10. Pretzels

This is my personal favorite, and my actual weakness. I can say ‘No’ to everything when I’m eating healthy, but put a bag of these chocolate covered pretzels in front of me and I’m a goner. They are the perfect combination of sweet and salty, and neither overpowers the other.

At the end of the day, you could probably dip Brussels sprouts in chocolate and it would taste good because let’s be honest – chocolate is everything. So, what are you waiting for? Celebrate the day, and try some of these dishes out!
