Four Years, For Life: Why College Friends Are The Best Friends

From a young age, we learn that friendships come and go. Maybe you were lucky enough to have the same group of friends from the playground all the way through graduation, but it seems rare that a friendship can withstand the many different stages of life that we’re all bound to pass through. That being said, the joy of making it through a majority of your life with at least some long-time pals by your side (or even miles away), is grounds for celebration.

So aside from family friends and those rare friends that from growing up, where’s the best place to meet new people? College. Yep, that’s right. The four years that you spend on a college campus provide us with the perfect space, time, and resources to build true, lasting friendships. Whether it’s your freshman roommate or that kid you met in biology lab sophomore year, college is essentially set up to expose us to as many new people and experiences as possible.

College friends are the best friends because you live together, or at least within walking distance. Therefore, you see each other at your very best and your very worst. When you come home after bombing a test or when something happens at home and you need a listening ear, your college friends will always be there. The call of true friendship is a call that will always be answered. For better and for worse, theyre your go-to people for the whole four years, and inevitably, for the rest of your life.

Since you live in such close proximity to each other, you experience important pieces of life together. From your scoring your first college boyfriend to finally achieving that 4.0, they are always there to celebrate. On the other hand, when things seem to take a turn down the wrong path, they’re always there to lift you out of tough times and help get you through it. When you think back to the very beginning of freshman year, chances are that you’ll realize that some of your friends now have been there since the very start. Because you change so much in college, its exciting to look back and see how much you have grown and changed together.

College is a time that is quintessential for exploring new interests and hobbies, and you can always count on your college friends to support you in all of your endeavors. You learn what works for you, what doesn’t, and the people who are going to stick by your side through it all. Another perk is that you get to choose what friendships to invest in and who you want to spend time with. Sure, we love our old friends — those friendships also have their own set of special qualities — but as we grow older, we realize what friendships are worth keeping.

The world is your oyster, and theres something to be said about going through life with good friends. Open yourself up to new relationships that are sure to last long after your college experience ends!
