He Might Have Won The Election, But I’m Not Celebrating

To all Americans who say, “Get over it; he won the election:” Let me be clear here: You have 100% nothing to worry about! Congrats to all of you on that. You won that battle fair and square. So yes, you can get over it and move on. Are your lives okay with how things will be for the next few years? Sure.

You and your families have it all; you are not any of the groups that his actions have and will affect. Maybe you just liked what he said, and you have nothing to lose at all.

But here’s the problem: The other half of America is part of a magnetized community. This includes the LBGTQ+ community, disabled black or brown people, women, and last but not least, immigrants.

We are all screwed, plain and simple.

The second Trump term after this election will undoubtedly be more terrifying than what we experienced in the first one. The first time around, we entered a pandemic, and his response was terrible. His other horrific actions included putting children in cages at the border and having no clear healthcare plan, just to name a few.

Now, he plans on something much worse. Do we know what will happen in his second term? It’s all been laid out in Project 2025

What’s included in Project 2025? CBS News’s line-by-line review identified at least 270 proposals in the project’s published blueprint for the next Republican president that match Trump’s past policies and current campaign promises. These range from shutting down the Department of Education to excising every mention of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion from federal agencies’ projects and programs. The agenda for Project 2025 matches Trump’s recorded words and his Administration’s deeds.

Do you see why we are scared now? So much was taken from us during Trump’s first election win, and I’m sure his second presidential term will be even worse.

So yes, he might have won, but let’s not forget his record. For example, he was impeached twice, convicted, and found guilty on 37 counts. We have elected a criminal as our president.

He loves to say he will “make America great again.”

First off, if anyone were to look at this country, they would clearly see that it has never been great. So what does he mean when he says that? Does he mean that he wants to be a leader or a dictator?

We shouldn’t put all of our eggs into this man’s basket because that is not normal. It never has been and never will be. I don’t care who you are. That’s because it doesn’t work like that. No matter how bad his supporters want that.

Real, lasting, and effective change doesn’t work like that. It requires collective effort.

Instead, what we have is a sick need for control and power that their supporters want. They made him feel untouchable and with no apparent requirement for accountability.

So, I’m not celebrating his election win. Instead, I’m sad, sick to my stomach, and grieving today. I’m terrified and worried for marginalized groups, which I’m a part of; I’m a biracial, disabled woman. For the next few years, many of us in marginalized communities will fear what is to come. If you can’t understand why, just look at his rhetoric in and out of office and how he handled himself and our country.

Many of us are terrified, and we are allowed to be. Those who support him need to understand and respect that. Not all of us are okay. Be kind to yourself and each other today and in the days, weeks, and months to come.

Will everyone else who is heartbroken today, including me, be okay? Yes, I believe we will. We just need to come together and protect each other. We, as a collective society of people from all different backgrounds and beliefs, need to do it because that is what we all need right now. Even though it’s hard, it has to be done, not just for us but also for future generations.
