5 Tips To Start Loving Your Body Today

“I wish I were pretty.”

“If only I were prettier and skinnier, people would see me differently.”

These are some thoughts I had back when I struggled with body image. I badly wanted the pretty privilege and validation from others. If I looked better, I thought, people would appreciate me more.

However, I realized my insecurities stemmed from society’s unrealistic beauty standards. I succumbed to the pressure of following these norms and doubted myself when I didn’t meet them.

Along the way, though, I realized it wasn’t about them; it was about me and the way I saw myself. I followed these five empowering tips to learn how to love my body and myself, and I hope it can help you, too:

1. Learn about your body.

Take time to understand how your body works. Knowing your body type and needs will help you set goals and improve your health. This includes the food that you eat. For example, overeating sweets can lead to weight gain and other health problems. Also, don’t hesitate to seek support if you show signs of disordered eating habits. Always remember that body positivity starts with self-care.

2. Set goals and celebrate milestones.

After identifying your body type and needs, o set realistic goals. You can start with goals like getting 8 hours of sleep every night, drinking 8 glasses of water, and eating a balanced diet. Celebrate your successes once you accomplish your goals, whether small or big!

3. Stop comparing your body to others’.

Wherever you go, in real life or on social media, there will always be beauty standards. Know that what you see online is mostly fabricated and imposes unrealistic, flawless bodies. Follow social media accounts that promote embracing body positivity instead. Stop comparing yourself to others. Remember: there is beauty in diversity.

4. Practice gratitude and self-compassion.

Embrace body positivity through gratitude and self-compassion. Challenge negative thoughts, and always be kind to yourself. You can talk to yourself in a mirror and speak positive affirmations so they come to you easier. When you compliment yourself, you magnify your strength and bring out the best in you.

5. Surround yourself with supportive people.

Surround yourself with uplifting people, as they will positively affect your mental health. Remove all the toxic people in your life, as they only make you feel bad about yourself. Real friends will never make you feel insecure. They will guide you to raise your self-esteem and develop confidence. Always choose people who choose you.

To be confident in your body, it only takes a few simple steps. Have a good mindset and positive attitude, and celebrate your body. Learn to be unapologetic and accept your flaws. Beauty is believing in yourself – and knowing you are worth it.
