How To Best Care For Your Newly Dyed Red Hair

Red hair is a commitment no matter what shade or hue it comes in. Coloring your hair red also means adapting to a specific routine that allows you to take care of your hair from the first stage to the last. Here are some tips you can follow to keep your newly dyed red hair looking great.

1. Use color-protect shampoo and conditioner right away.

Don’t wait for the color to fade. Use the best natural shampoos for oily hair and a color-protect conditioner from the very beginning. The conditioner will help to lock the color in and it won’t wear your hair down or leave your roots greasy.

If you like, you can use a red shampoo with a hint of red color to it once a week to preserve your shade in between colorings. It’ll keep the hair nice and vibrant between colorings and re-touching appointments. Remember, the more you use color-treated products on your hair, the longer you’ll be able to maintain your new vibrant tresses.

2. Only wash your hair when it’s dirty.

If that means an extra day of dry shampoo; then so be it. It doesn’t matter what kind of color you have, whether it’s straight or curly, the more you wash it, the faster it’ll fade out. It’s just super important to not overwash your hair once you color it.

3. Turn down the heat on the hair dryer and curling iron.

When using hair instruments, make sure to set everything on medium heat and keep the temperature at 345 degrees or less. You really don’t need the water to be the temperature of the sun when washing your hair either.

Remember, heat and sun fade things fast. So if you’re out too long in the sun and you don’t have sunscreen for your hair, your hair will fade. Try to cover your hair with a hat or throw it in a hair clip if you’re going to be in the sun all day.

4. Re-touch it regularly.

Unless you have a permanent hair color, you may have to go in every four to six weeks to re-touch your hair color and prevent it from fading out. You may refresh it with a demi-permanent color to help redeposit color and maintain the vibrancy of your new hue.

Red hair is a huge trend right now and although it’s one of the most beautiful colors, it can also be the most challenging color to achieve and maintain. Hopefully, this guide has given you practical tools that you can use to care for your new look. Remember to not wash your hair too often, avoid heat and use good quality hair products.
