How You Can Protect Your Energy As An Empath

Do you know or suspect that you might be an empath? Do you have trouble managing your emotions and feel constantly overwhelmed? If you answered yes to these questions, you most likely are extremely empathetic, and your energy is not being protected! Individuals considered empathetic are usually outwardly kind, helpful, and inquisitive. They’re also often labeled as super sensitive and connect deeply with others. If any of this sounds familiar to you, it’s safe to say you could be an empath.

While many positives come with being empathetic, it can also be very draining. You can easily become overwhelmed if you don’t know how to protect your mental health and energy. While you have many wonderful qualities, being an empathetic person may affect you in many other ways that aren’t so positive.

Empathetic individuals soak up the emotions of others around them.

This is something that isn’t being done purposely: In most cases, you won’t even realize you are doing this until you feel overwhelmed, sad, and confused. You may find it hard to have a grasp of your own emotions, and that’s because they are mixed in with everyone else’s! While being there for our loved ones is important, protecting your energy is essential if you suspect you’re an empath.

You need to have enough juice left in your batteries to keep yourself going. So, you may sometimes need to take a break from your family or friends. You should also be aware of the effects large social settings could have on your energy. After all, it’s not just one-on-one relationships that could drain you! Settings with a mix of strong emotional energies can weigh on you just as heavily as a one-on-one interaction. These large events can include weddings, funerals, and concerts. Even events with positive energy, like a wedding, could strip you of emotional energy.

If you’re an empath, it’s a good idea to remember not to involve yourself in the lives of others too much.

It can be hard at times because empathetic people naturally attach themselves to situations that may not involve them directly — they may want to help or give advice to those in need. However, sometimes it’s just not your burden to bear. You should also avoid annoying your friends and family by becoming too invested in their lives.

As an empath, make it a priority to protect your mental health by taking breaks whenever you can. You have a life to live and experience it to the fullest without the weight of others. Find time to make days all about you. Whether that’s a long soak in the tub, a walk through the park, or snuggling in bed watching your favorite TV show, it can make a huge difference in your life. Spending time with yourself to breathe and recharge is vital for someone who is sensitive to the energy around them.
