7 Make-up Tips & Tricks For Oily Skin

Are you tired of trying to conceal your oily skin? Oily skin is difficult to work with, especially when applying makeup to a greasy complexion, but you can still achieve a flawless makeup routine for your oily skin. Remember these beauty suggestions the next time you’re looking for a makeup routine that will keep your makeup in place all day.

Applying foundation for oily skin, concealer, contour, and blush in the morning can take time to get right, but it’s worth it. Here are some expert tips and tricks to help you:

Prime(r) Time

Using a makeup primer helps all of your products stay on all day. At the very least, use an oil-free, anti-shine primer on the oiliest regions of your face, like the T-zone (your forehead, nose, and chin). Apply it after cleaning your face but before applying foundation, powder, or other cosmetics.

You may also use an eye makeup primer to help prep your lids for makeup application, so don’t think of primer as just a “face product.” If you’re in a rush, dab some foundation or concealer on your lids before swiping on eyeshadow. Using a lip primer before you apply lipstick will also help your lipstick last.

Exfoliate

Exfoliate once per week, and wash your face with a soft cleanser at least once a day. The quality of your makeup is only as good as the foundation you use. Exfoliating with a mask or peel every week will keep your skin smooth and even remove dead skin.

Moisturize

Any makeup professional will tell you that focusing on skincare is the key to flawless makeup. The less makeup you use, the clearer, brighter, and smoother your skin will naturally be. After cleansing your skin, use serums, moisturizers, and sunscreen. Even if your skin is oily, moisturizing is a crucial step that you shouldn’t ignore. Your skin will be less likely to make its own moisture if it’s already well-hydrated.

Rose Water

Rose water can help you get a natural glow while keeping your skin fresh and smooth throughout the day. Before applying your actual makeup, spray rose water all over your face and neck and let it dry naturally. Use a setting spray before you start to apply your makeup to help prevent oils from leaking through.

Matte Products

If you have an oily complexion, makeup products labeled “matte” or “long-wear” are generally a good fit for your skin type. If you’re looking for concealer or foundation, remember that liquid matte solutions are the most effective for oily skin. They provide long-lasting, natural-looking results. Avoid stick foundations and creamy compacts because they can be too occlusive.

Powder

Using a lot of face powder may seem good for your oily skin, but going overboard on powder may make your pores release even more oil. Only use powder on the parts of your face that glisten, and use transparent matte products to reduce shine. If you accidentally apply too much powder, dampen a cosmetic sponge and dab the over-powdered areas to clean it up.

Blotting Sheets

Blotting sheets are handy to throw in your purse for makeup touch-ups during the day. With just a quick swipe, you can soak up any extra oil that has built up on your face.

Choosing makeup products for oily skin is easier than you might think. Use these products to give your skin a fresh, bright look — without that annoying oil!
