6 Indoor Workouts for Getting Your Fitness On When It’s Too Cold Outside

When it’s freezing outside, finding the motivation to work out can be tough. Luckily, many indoor workouts can help you feel good about burning calories and keep you focused on your fitness goals. With plenty of free videos available online, you can work out without even leaving your house. You can even do it in your pajamas — no one is around to judge! There are also plenty of indoor fitness classes you can try, so the only time you’ll be outside is going from your car to the gym. So don’t let the winter blues get in the way of achieving your goals with these six indoor workouts.

1. We Should Be Dancing…

You can follow this easy workout on YouTube right from the comfort of your living room. It can burn over 300 calories if you put forth a noble effort. What’s more, Zumba feels like dancing, and once you’re moving, the endorphins will take over. In no time, you’ll be ready to take on whatever the day throws at you.

2. You *Spin* Me Right Round, Baby…

Spin classes are a super fun way to get your body moving and work out in a pumping environment. You can easily make new friends at your local spin studio or drag one of your girlfriends along with you. If you’ve never tried spin classes before, don’t be intimidated. The classes typically involve loud and energizing music, making the time fly by and the sweat dripping. Do a Google search for studios in your area, as many usually have a discount for first-timers.

3. Just Keep Swimming

An indoor swimming pool is a great way to build lean muscle. The resistance of the water provides you with a full-body workout and allows you to feel more balanced. There are usually indoor swimming pools all around the country, so a quick internet search can help you find a place to dive in.

4. Peloton

This workout equipment was designed with an introvert in mind. With coaching, classes, and easy-to-follow workouts, you can torch calories while staying home. This can also help you feel good about achieving any fitness goals you may have. Though the price for some can be off-putting, some great payment plans are available. They also feature an app with several different exercise routines you can do without their machines.

5. Down Dog, Bright Day

Yoga is a great way to find your center before starting your day. Easy-to-follow YouTube videos help guide you through a deep stretch by working all of your major muscles and providing you with a calm mental state. These videos can help you set your intentions for the day or give you a way to find some zen after a long workday.

6. Pilates

If you’ve never tried pilates, it’s like ballet meets lean muscle toning. Usually paired with light weights or tiny balls to squeeze between your thighs, you may not feel your muscles working intensely. But later in the day, you’ll indeed be feeling the burn, especially when you sit down. To try pilates, look up some studios online, and you’ll probably be able to snag a discount for the first class.
