Shopping At Mejuri? Here’s What To Buy (And What Not To)

Canadian-based company Mejuri is one of the best jewelry start-ups that have popped up in recent years. It offers high-end pieces at below-retail pricing. Their styles are casual but still noticeable. They’re also made from enduring materials like 14-karat gold, sterling silver, and gold vermeil (18-karat gold layered on sterling silver). Some pieces also include ethically sourced diamonds and gemstones.

Before you load up your shopping cart, here are a handful of pieces we stand by and a couple it might be best to avoid. That’s right, we’ve taken all the guesswork out of it and rounded up what to snag and what to skip next time you’re shopping at Mejuri.

1. Bold Herringbone Chain Necklace $150 – Buy

Herringbone is a great idea if you’re looking to add something simple but not boring to your jewelry look. This necklace is a solid choice for a new staple and is available in two lengths, so you can style it solo or double up. It’s made in gold vermeil, which is a thick 18k gold layer on sterling silver — not to be confused with common regular gold plating. It’s a solid piece with some weight to it, and it catches the light beautifully inside and outdoors, making it perfect for any and all occasions year-round.

2. Signet Ring $205 – Buy

This is a modern take on a design that has been around for centuries but with a simple upgrade: same bold style, smaller ring. It’s handcrafted in 14k solid gold, which gives it its beautiful, subtle hue, and the bezel surface makes it perfect for engraving an initial if you so choose. Estimated retail on this beauty is over $550, so this is a steal if you’ve been looking for a staple piece to invest in.

3. Charlotte Bold Ring $95 – Buy

Finding new, unique rings can be difficult. But everyone once in a while, you stumble upon a style that is too good to pass up, and this is one of those times. Turns out you can have your cake and eat it too! The Charlotte ring is inspired by the iconic French dessert. Since it’s made in gold vermeil, you can wear this ring every day and be sure it’ll complement the other rings you already own beautifully. You can also use it alone as a statement piece or with other rings in a stack. It’s lightweight too!

4. Layered Opal Necklace $125 – Skip

Don’t get us wrong: Mejuri’s gemstones are beautiful. This cabochon cut opal pendant is swoon-worthy, but if you’re looking for something to wear regularly, steer clear of opals, especially in earring form. These opals aren’t suitable for everyday wear as they are super sensitive to water and turn very easily. In my experience, what started as a beautiful blue and peach iridescent gemstone turned into an unpleasantly discolored, murky orange-brown color in just a few weeks. This can happen due to water contact, like showering, humidity, sweating, or even something as simple as contact with wet hair. As you can see, that is simply too many factors you’d have to avoid to keep one piece in wearable condition.

5. Harris Two-Tone Convertible Link Earrings $175 – Buy

Designed in collaboration with British Vogue’s Sarah Harris, these earrings are a high-impact statement that you can switch up every day. Featuring a removable bottom link, so you can style them as timeless huggies or elevated drop earrings. These showstoppers are handcrafted in 18k gold vermeil and sterling silver, plated in rhodium for extra shine and durability.

6. Beaded Hoops $150 – Skip

Looking for your essential everyday hoops? If so, these beaded hoops aren’t it. If you’re in the market for a dainty hoop that you can wear all the time and never take out, you can get the very similar Single Mini Hoop for just 30 bucks, and it’s a fool-proof buy. Made from 14k solid gold, they won’t oxidize or discolor, so you can wear the solid mini hoops every day, everywhere. For this price, we say skip the beaded option.

7. Diamond Celestial Studs $300 – Buy

Handcrafted in 14k solid gold and set with 0.112 carats of diamonds, these celestial, classic studs are a pair that you’ll truly never have to (or want to) take out. What’s more, Mejuri’s diamonds are ethically-sourced from suppliers who follow conflict-free and socially responsible practices. So everyone wins when you treat yourself to a gift like this.
