Kristen Stewart Will Play Princess Diana In The Historical Drama ‘Spencer’

ICYMI, actress Kristen Stewart is portraying the late Diana, Princess of Wales in the upcoming historical drama Spencer.

The film, which releases this fall, centers around Princess Diana (born Diana Frances Spencer) deciding to end her marriage to Prince Charles and leave the Royal Family after spending the Christmas holiday at Queen Elizabeth II’s Sandringham Estate.

Now, Entertainment Tonight just released a new official photo of Stewart dressed as Diana, and it’s a beautiful mirror image. Seriously, the resemblance is uncanny.

In the newly-released photo, Stewart dons a green-and-red plaid blazer with a white turtleneck.

The look closely mimics the Catherine Walker-designed multicolored blazer Diana famously wore while visiting Château de Chenonceau in France in the fall of 1988.

When producers first announced Stewart’s casting, many people remained skeptical that the actress could pull off such a role. As more images leak, however, the excitement around this biopic builds.

The first photo of Stewart in her Princess Diana role dropped back in January, shortly after filming began at the Schlosshotel Kronberg. In that image, Stewart wore a black-and-red ensemble that closely resembled the outfit Diana wore on New Year’s Day 1986. The look was complete with a birdcage hat – one of Lady Di’s favorite accessories.

Filming later moved to the United Kingdom, and IMDB now states the film has reached the post-production stage.

Spencer is directed by the Oscar-nominated Pablo Larraín and written by highly decorated British screenwriter Steven Knight. Moreover, Stewart will play opposite Jack Farthing and fellow Oscar nominee Sally Hawkins, Timothy Spall, and Sean Harris. Although there are many Princess Di films, Spencer is just the fourth full-length biographical drama film of its type.

The buzz surrounding Spencer continues to grow day by day, and we hope we won’t have to wait long to see this all-star cast in action!
