Demi Lovato Will Open Up About The ‘Darkest Point’ Of Her Life In A New YouTube Docuseries

Demi Lovato is kicking off 2021 with a new docuseries launching exclusively on YouTube Originals.

The songstress announced today on her Instagram that she will release the first two parts of her four-part docuseries, Demi Lovato: Dancing With The Devil on March 23. The other sections will be aired weekly. However, it will be premiering at the SXSW Film Festival in Australia on a sooner date.

The doc will address Lovato’s near-fatal experience having overdosed on heroine in 2018, and the recovery that followed-including her stint in rehab.

“It’s been two years since I came face-to-face with the darkest point in my life, and now I’m ready to share my story with the world…” said Lovato, in a statement to Rolling Stone

The Sorry Not Sorry singer has been hinting this release for two years. In a now-deleted tweet, she announced on December 22, 2018: “Someday, I’ll tell the world what exactly happened, why it happened and what my life is like today.” However, she went on to indicate that she needed more time to heal from the experience, “..But until I’m ready to share that with people please stop prying and making up shit that you know nothing about. I still need time and space to heal.”

Demi Lovato is known by fans as a person who never stops hustling. Having both a successful career in acting and singing, the 28-year-old star continues to dazzle the world, while facing her unfortunate share of emotional turmoil. However, this isn’t the first time she’s shared her vulnerable experiences with drug and alcohol abuse.

Back in 2017 she released her first documentary on the video-sharing site, Demi Lovato: Simply Complicated, which proved to be a smash hit.

Lovato criticized the tabloid industry when they stigmatized her experience after the overdose. Now, her fans will be able to see her recovery process in a first-person perspective, instead of reading reports by the media.

In addition to hearing about Lovato’s experiences, viewers will also learn about her musical journey for the past three years, while watching some behind-the-scenes footage of Lovato’s “Tell Me You Love Me” world tour.

Fans on Twitter are more than excited to witness a new, emotional documentary being released:

And others continue to admire Lovato’s strength and bravery to share a personal and secretive part of her life.

Opening about the consequences of addiction is a difficult decision that many people face. However, Demi Lovato continues to unleash her inner Warrior by using her platform as a place to touch upon issues in which society deems to be taboo.

“Demi’s willingness to explore the darkest elements of her life is going to leave the audience a complete understanding of everything she’s been through and ultimately where she is going,” said Director Michael D. Ratner

In the United States, almost 21 million people have at least one addiction, but only 10% receive treatment. When celebrities like Demi Lovato share a similar experience to the world, other people will learn more about the issue and the stigma behind it. Therefore, Lovato’s new documentary isn’t only about her strength and character, but about achieving change and minimizing stigma, while giving a more personal and emotional approach. So props for her on that.
