I Dated The Guy I Told My Ex Not To Worry About

dated

When I dated my first college boyfriend, he told me that he didn’t want me to spend time with one of my guy friends because my friend “threatened” him. At the time, I shrugged off my boyfriend’s concerns. I remember telling him that there was no reason to worry – we were good friends, and that was it.

But nine months after my boyfriend and I broke up, I started dating the guy I told my boyfriend not to worry about.

Four years later, I’m still dating the same guy.

When I dated my ex, I always felt like we missed something in our relationship. But at the time, I didn’t notice how often I wanted to be around my best guy friend. He was always there for me, he made me laugh, and spending time with him was always fun.

Maybe my ex did have reason to worry about my friend.

At the time, I couldn’t see the magnetism between my best friend and I, but everyone else could. Something about him drew me in, and my feelings for him only increased over time. And almost a year after my ex and I broke up, I started dating my best friend. From the very first day we were together, our relationship felt natural and right. It felt like we were meant to be together all along.

When my best friend and I started our relationship, I felt guilty. After all, my ex worried about losing me to the guy I ended up with. Over time, though, I got to see my ex slowly move on from me. Every time I felt guilty about my choice, I remembered how happy he ended up. This made me feel at peace with my decision to date my best friend.

At the end of the day, I don’t regret my decision to date the guy I told my ex not to worry about.

That guy ended up being the perfect person for me. Always follow where your heart leads because sometimes you’ll find what you’re looking for right in front of you.
