10 Things Women Truly Want In A Relationship

When you ask a woman what she wants, she’s never truly sure of — a place to eat, which shirt color to wear, or how she feels about her coworkers. But when it comes to what she’s looking for in a man, she always has an idea, even if she doesn’t vocalize it. Typically, most women want the same thing, but they’ll keep it to themselves for as long as possible out of fear of seeming unreasonable. But I say, screw that mentality.

First and foremost, women want a gentleman. We deserve someone who is courteous and knows how to treat a lady. I’m not talking about always holding the door open for us or offering their jackets. What’s more important is speaking to us with respect and complimenting us. Manners and courtesy are always appreciated, especially coming from a gentleman.

Women want someone affectionate. Not only do we appreciate a cuddle buddy behind closed doors, but we don’t mind having a bit of affection in public. It could be as simple as holding hands or a quick touch on the lower back in a crowded room. We want someone who isn’t embarrassed to show us affection regardless of the situation.

Women want a nurturer. I’m not saying someone who is constantly taking care of us. Instead, I mean someone who doesn’t mind grabbing us soup when we’re sick or picking up tampons from the store after we’ve had a  busy day. It could even be such small things as tucking us into bed when we’re too drunk or doing the dishes because they can sense we’re overwhelmed. What’s important is that they notice us and our needs.

Women want an equal. Gender roles are outdated so let’s forget them completely. When it comes to household chores, both parties should take initiative. Whether it’s switching between who covers the dinner bill when you’re out or someone tackling the laundry while the other cooks, it doesn’t matter. We want the responsibilities to be balanced, not gender-specific.

Women want a romantic. We’re not looking for an over-the-top guy taken straight out of a Nicholas Sparks novel, but we’re looking for someone who isn’t afraid to get in touch with their romantic side. Gestures such as surprising us with flowers, a nice text message, or a planned date night are the ultimate swoon-worthy moves to make us cry happy tears and text our girlfriends immediately.

Women want a best friend and confidant. Having a friendship within a relationship is the ultimate goal. I mean, if you can’t be friends with your partner, what are you doing? We need someone we feel comfortable talking to about our dark pasts, painful issues, and life struggles. Most importantly, we want someone who will never turn us away. Someone who will listen without judgment and give us their honest feedback and comfort. And of course, someone we can laugh endlessly with while getting up to no good with our partner in crime.

Women want a cheerleader. And no, I’m not talking about one in a short skirt with pom poms. Instead, all women want someone to support all of our wildest dreams and encourage us to achieve them. It could be in the form of a feminist boyfriend or a supportive husband who wants their child to see what a strong woman looks like.

Women want a bit of a mix up in the sheets. Sure, we love a bad boy who will pull our hair and give us the rough sex we crave. However, we also want someone who can kiss our bodies tenderly and make passionate love to us. Regardless of how he is in bed, we just want someone to make us feel like the sexiest woman in the world.

Women want a fighter. And no, I’m not talking about a street fighter. We want someone who won’t give up on our relationship when things get hard. Someone who will brush off small arguments and stick by our side regardless of what life may throw at us. Someone who makes the effort to fight for our shared love.

At the end of the day, all women want is their forever person. Personally, I don’t think it’s too much to ask for. We want someone who will commit to us and love and adore us regardless of how hard things may turn. That’s our biggest dream, and I pray every woman whose still looking will find that.
