10 Ways You Can Make Rainy Days More Productive

If adulthood has taught me anything, it’s how crazy I was to wish for sunny days when I was younger. As an adult, I beg for rainy days. Something about staying in my pj’s all day watching a marathon of “Botched” and stuffing my face is so appealing.

Unfortunately, society likes to throw shade at those who aren’t working constantly. Who says you can’t spend a rainy day indoors perfecting the WAP dance? Definitely not me! And if someone did ever say that I clearly didn’t get the memo. But for anyone who’d like to spend their day indoors being a bit more productive, there are many ways to do that! Here are some ways you can be productive on your next rainy day.

1. Read

Not many things turn me on more than cuddling under a blanket with a cup of tea (or a tall glass of cabernet), a good book, and rain splattering my windows.

You don’t have to sit down and finish an entire 1,000-page novel. Just grab a magazine or read a blog. Or scroll through Twitter aimlessly for a few hours if that’s your jam — it is still technically reading.

2. Write

Whether it’s a school paper, a simple poem, or an earth-shattering tweet that makes you go viral overnight, rainy days seem to have a knack for helping get those creative juices flowing, so use them to your advantage!

3. Watch something

Rainy days give you the perfect opportunity to catch up on any missed shows or host a mean movie marathon. Grab yourself a bowl of popcorn or some baby carrots and peanut butter (if you haven’t already, go try it out and thank me later), and press play — it’s that simple.

4. Exercise

If this isn’t exactly your first choice as to how to spend a rainy day, that’s ok — it’s not mine either. But with everything going on in the world right now, we should all try to be the healthiest version of ourselves. Whether it’s a relaxing yoga practice or a HIIT workout — either way, it’s good to get your body moving.

5. Deep clean

There’s no better time to roll up your sleeves and give your house a good cleaning than being stuck indoors. Even a small task is okay, like deciding to tackle that closet you’ve been meaning to declutter for months.

6. Do a puzzle

Nothing says experiencing early onset back pain like doing a puzzle! Sure, at times they’re super frustrating, but you’ll feel a great sense of accomplishment afterward …until you rip it apart and throw it right back into the box ten seconds later.

7. Learn a new hobby

Take this day indoors to discover what you really enjoy doing. Like, maybe in the midst of learning that new TikTok dance you’ve been working on you discover a hidden talent that you never knew you possessed! Um, hello Jabbawockeez? I think you just found your newest member.

8. Try a new makeup look

If you know how to put on makeup and are actually like, good at it, I applaud you. I can’t help but to always turn out looking like Miley Cyrus circa 2008 Grammys… it isn’t pretty. For those who actually know what they’re doing and have been dying to try out a new look, now’s the time!

9. Cook a new recipe

Maybe you’ve wanted to learn how to prepare something other than a bowl of cereal, or you’ve just been itching to try out a new recipe. Either way, a rainy day is a perfect time to put your cooking skills to the test.

10. Have a self-care day

If nothing else on this list seems appealing to you, there’s only one thing left to do — give yourself the ultimate spa day. Sure, this may not be the most productive way to spend your rainy day, but self-care is much more important than many people actually realize.

Light some candles, put on your favorite playlist, and soak in a bubble bath. While you’re at it, indulge in some wine and your favorite food because you’re a badass and you deserve it!

You can’t go wrong when it comes to spending a rainy day the right way. Contrary to popular belief, you can still make it a productive day. And if all else fails, just blast some music and dance in your underwear ‘til the sun goes down. Tomorrow is a new day.
