4 Ways To Keep In Touch With Your Friends While Away From School

Due to COVID-19, most of us are separated from our friends and family. This means that most college students will go even longer than normal without seeing their friends. Although this situation might be upsetting and frustrating, it doesn’t mean that you have to lose touch. Here are 4 ways you can keep in touch with your college friends while you’re away from school.

1. Text Messaging

One of the easiest and most used forms of communication among college students is texting. Texting is a very versatile form of communication as it can be used to send a quick “Hey!” or you can use it to give your best friend an update on your love life. You can also make group chats with all your besties, which makes it easy to keep in touch with a group of friends.

Texting is a great method of communication because of the convenience and ability to get messages to people quickly without verbally talking to them. This way, if they’re busy, they can read and respond to the text when it’s convenient rather than stopping and dropping everything when the phone rings.

2. FaceTime

FaceTime is a tool that anyone with an iPhone or Macbook can use to stay connected. It allows both one-on-one chatting and group FaceTime calls.

Both forms of FaceTime are great!  While I enjoy both, one-on-one FaceTime calls are easier for me because I prefer individual interactions rather than in a group conversations. Group FaceTime calls are facilitated the same way as a one-on-one call, easy and user friendly.

3. Zoom

Zoom has been making headway in popularity due to  many colleges using the program to facilitate distance learning.  In addition to using it for classes, my friends and I have used Zoom  for group video calls since we already have it on our computers for school.

4. Facebook

Facebook is a great tool that lets you keep in touch with friends. It gives you various ways to interact with friends. You can tag friends in photos and posts, or you can post something onto a friend’s timeline that makes you think of them. You can also use Facebook’s messaging system, Messenger, to stay in touch via text and video.

Facebook is one of the sites I use most often to keep in touch with my friends from school. It makes our extended separation less difficult because we can all share our adventures together. In fact, I’ve created albums with my friends and filled them with all of our memories from the school year. Facebook is a good way to stay connected to people’s lives without long conversations, but there’s always the option to talk or message if you want.

As you can see, there are many ways to keep in touch with your friends when you’re away from college. What are some of the ways you keep in touch with your friends outside of school? Let us know in the comments!
