The Screen Actors Guild Awards (aka the SAG Awards) always bring the drama to the red carpet. After all, it’s only natural when actors get together to celebrate their own guild. It’s like a high school reunion with old friends trying to impress each other. But let me tell you, this year they raised the stakes for the rest of awards season with last night’s outstanding looks.
I didn’t even see an outfit that looked bad or ugly, although we love judging the fashion choices of the rich and famous. So instead of doing a general fashion review, let’s take a moment to discuss the best dressed ladies of the night at the SAG Awards. After all, they deserve some recognition for their acting and their red carpet looks.
Charlize can literally wear next to nothing wrong, and this Givenchy two piece is no exception. It showcased her athletic build and proved she’s a bad ass woman who is a force to be reckoned with.
When I think of award season, I expect to see elaborate princess dresses like these. From the tulle to the soft pastel colour, I am in love with this look.
This is a classic roaring twenties type of dress, and I am obsessed with it. The colour, the dropped sleeve, the sparkles… Ugh! She’s so simple and stunning!
Millie Bobby Brown
Millie Bobby Brown is already a trailblazer for her generation, so it’s no surprise she rocked this suit to one of the biggest events of her career. She stood out and wore the confidence we all wish we had.
This Jason Wu dress is sleek, sexy, sheer, mysterious, seductive, and classy all in one. I am in love with how simple and effective it was, especially for someone so short (since it’s hard to elongate shorter body types in dresses like these).
Scarlett is already off to an empowering start to the new year and award season. With this structured teal dress, she’s ready to keep the attention on her.
Although some may argue it may seem a little prom-like, I think this dress looks great on Jennifer. Clearly she’s not letting her ex-husband’s drama in the tabloids hold her back.
This dress is super fun, flirty, and fierce! I love the neck line and the length of the dress because it allows some playful room for Sarah to show off those long legs. However, the train adds the sophistication the dress needed to make it more than just a party dress.
Jennifer Aniston stole the show at last night’s SAG Awards with her acceptance speech, and of course the gossip surrounding Brad Pitt. Did you see him stop dead in his tracks to watch her accept her award (and their photo op after the show)? Honestly, though, this dress is really what people should be talking about.
From the bold colours to the unique ball gown structure, Cynthia looked beautiful from head to toe. If this is what she’s wearing to the SAG’s, I could only imagine how elaborate her Oscars gown will be.
The fashion game really finished the night strong with a good mixture of seasoned vetrans and newbies both making a statement. It will be interesting to see how the looks will increase for the British Academy of Film & Television Arts Awards (aka the BAFTA’s), Independent Spirit Awards and the Oscars (that airs on Sunday February 9).
But until then, I’ll keep dreaming of the gown I’d wear to one of those fancy events if I ever had the chance.
What was your favourite look of the night at yesterday’s SAG Awards?
