20 Chick Flicks From The 2000s That All Millennial Women Love

There’s something about the nostalgia affiliated with movies from our youth, specifically the 2000s, that sparks a specific feeling in our hearts. Maybe because they remind us of our prime years, inspired our bedroom décor or fashion sense, or maybe they were just something we lived by. But we can all agree that as millennial women, we all loved our chick flicks in the 2000s. And we all know at least three other women who loved the same movies as we did.

Here are 20 chick flicks from the 2000s that all millennial women love:

Not only did it inspire all young girls to get into cheerleading and dance, but it also taught us how to be fierce and competitive women who had to work hard to get what they want. Plus, it followed with five sequels, so clearly it did something for a few generations after as well.

We loved it so much that when the sequel was announced we all lined up with our girlfriends to go see it! If only we could get a follow up now…

If you played soccer back in the day, chances are you loved this movie. It defined your dream of becoming a pro-female soccer star and falling in love with a hot footballer, which is always a great bonus.

13 Going On 30 (2003)

You’re lying to yourself if you don’t wish you were old for a day just to see what it was like – only to discover that being an adult sucks.

Step Up (2006)

Dancing movies were a huge deal in the mid-2000s and they only got more infectious thanks to this love story. Plus, it introduced us to the world of Channing Tatum’s dancing, which was something we appreciated even more when Magic Mike came out.

Save The Last Dance (2000)

We really liked dancing movies, okay? And this was the start of it all. It also introduced us to a relatable interracial romance story and was the first of its kind at that time!

Crossroads (2002)

The big hype back in the day was caused by this gem, which was Britney Spears’ acting debut! So of course, we all had to watch it at a way too young age just to see her.

High School Musical (2006)

This movie and its sequels dominated the world and took the heart of every girl who had the ability to watch TV. We had everything from the DVDs, pillow cases, life-sized posters, alarm clocks to notebooks and clothing with their faces on it.

The Lizzie McGuire Movie (2003)

The fact that Lizzie McGuire was going to Italy in a full-length feature film that went to theatres was the joy of my frantic fangirl’s heart at that time. This was what dreams are made of.

What a Girl Wants (2003)

We all wanted to find out we were secretly royalty because of this movie. And we all wanted a hot British boyfriend too.

Legally Blonde (2001)

Elle Woods is the definition of a strong and empowering independent woman! She’s a role model and a trailblazer! And thanks to this movie, we all use legal jargon in everyday life now.

I don’t know if the 2005 Torino Winter Olympics inspired us all to be figure skaters or if it was this movie. But I say the movie.

She’s the Man (2006)

You’d never be able to say this whole movie was based on a Shakespeare play, but indeed it was. Not only did it retell a classic play in a modern way, but it also introduced us to Channing Tatum, and made us love soccer and Amanda Bynes!

It starred Hilary Duff, a real Disney Princess, as a princess. So it was already appealing right from the start. Then throw in a heartthrob like Austin Ames (aka Chad Michael Murray) to play the dreamy and romantic lead and you got yourselves a classic movie we can all recite to this day.

Mean Girls (2004)

Some refer to Mean Girls as a cult classic since it has a group of dedicated die-hard fans, but this movie gave us every reason to idolize it. It is one of the most quotable movies to date, represents a semi-accurate high school experience and is just overall hilarious.

John Tucker Must Die (2006)

While the plot line may be predictable and everyone in it is good-looking, this film never gets talked about enough considering how amazing it is. It’s underrated, to say the least, and I’ll always rewatch it when it’s on TV late at night, simply because it’s so incredible!

Even if you’ve forgotten some of these movies even existed, you can’t deny that you instantly remembered key quotes or the lovable characters. So do yourself a favor – grab your girlfriends and some wine and have a good old-fashioned movie night, followed by a 2000s-styled sleepover!
